I am looking at a 1991 318 bmw and a 1997 Mazda Miata, both i think will need the clutch changed in the upcoming months. Does anyone know about how much it would be to change one or the other? or even a place or person who would do it for cheap. I am just tossing around the idea of getting a cheap convertible that gets decent gas mileage to drive to school everyday so i don’t have to keep putting miles on my car that i have now. Or any other input on one car or the other would be great, i know there are a lot of e30 and miata people on these boards. Thanks
DIY.
Both jobs are straight forward.
I have almost no mechanical knowledge at all, i don’t even change my own oil haha, and i have no tools either even though i’ve heard both of these are easy to work on.
both of these are not good choices if you’re not going to do you’re own work.
Contact my buddy Jake he does good work on the side after his day job.
716-930-2263 tell him Gennaro sent you.
I’ve had an E30 and a miata.
Both are dead nuts simple.
Buy yourself a set of tools and read some forums.
Both of these cars have DIY write-ups on everything from oil changes to V8 swaps.
If you’re not doing your own work. Buy a Camry.
Minor stuff i can do, big mechanical jobs like changing a clutch not so much.
Don’t listen to mingle
Doing that shit with out a lift sucks pay someone else.
I gave you a reputable mechanic…so what’s the problem?
There is none, ill give him a call if i end up getting the car. Thanks for the reference and i’m not sure if it was you, but good work on getting that civic for that guy on here.
Is that why you never finish your builds?
Mostly because I wanted to spend 30k on a wedding lol
Should be a drop in the bucket for a baller like yourself that makes all kinds of $$$$$$$$$$
Pretty much and I love what I do
Fuuuuuu.
Pro-tip. Don’t get married.
if you get an E30 / Miata and pay for everything (and plan to have it not drive a steaming pile of shit) you might as well just go lease a new V6 mustang because the same amount of money will leave your wallet every month.
lol I didn’t say not do any work.
A clutch is just one of those things if you don’t have any tools, no idea what your doing, and trying to do it on jack stands it sucks.
Brakes, Suspension, Random electrical, Tune ups etc are all easy with out a lift.
^
I can agree with that.
I’d put myself pretty high on the likelihood to DIY scale, and I paid to have the clutch done on my GTO.
Could I have done it on jackstands in my garage with the tools I have? Probably. It would have been a huge PITA though. Not to mention I’m never that comfortable under a car when you have to lift it that high off the ground on jackstands.
As far as cost in the OP, I’d guess they’d be pretty similar in labor. They’re both front engine rear drive vehicles so the general procedure is going to be about the same.
Check our forum sponsors. Swerve, turbociv, carnut all come to mind. You won’t be dissappointed.
