I was driving home from work last night, when something happened. Couldn’t shift into any gear. If i turned off the car, and then put it in gear, then started, the car will move, even with the clutch pedal pressed. Sound like the clutch throw out?
sounds like master or slave …any fluid leaking from the slave on the tranny or from the master on the firewall ? or even from the master inside the car onto the floor ?
nope, clutch still feels the same
I had something like this happen to my car. Turned out that I actually broke one of the retaining clips that holds the springs in place. If its the same problem get someone to push you up to about 10km/h and you should be able to slide it into first… After that you just have to avoid red lights and use clutchless shifting. Here are some pictures of mine, this was from the race car.
What it should look like
What mine looked like when I got it out
Picture of the damage fron another angle with my finger pointing to the broken part.
Before you go and pull the transmission off take a look in your resivour bottle. If there isn’t any fluid then you just have a leak in the system… It takes seconds and will save you huge time… Trust me, I just helped a friend do the clutch in a car that didn’t need to have it done. At least we upgraded it to a lightwieght flywheel and new racing clutch so it wasen’t completely in vain. They had the transmission off by the time I got there, or I would have checked. Oh well. Hopefully this is a little helpfull, my clutch was old and had 4 or 5 HPDEs on it. I actually broke it in a spirited driving contest between me and a new mustang GT. The clutch pedal will feel the same because the pressure plate is not affected.
nope,. this cluth doesnt have springs. and the clutch resevoir is full still.
Really, is it a aftermarket clutch ?
edited last post with a pic
Hmm, well I would think there should be some change in clutch feel if there is a problem with the throwout bearing. Does it make bad sounds when you push it in ?
no. but if i start the car in neutral, and try to force it into 1st, with or without clutch pressed, the car will slightly move, no grinding. but it wont go in gear
Are you sure it is even a clutch issue.
What type of car are we talking about??
1994 audi quattro CS. i believe its a clutch issue, because if i have the car off, put it in 1st, then start with the clutch pressed all the way down, the car rolls, like when u try starting ur car while in gear, and clutch not pressed (for those who dont need to press teh clutch to start the car)
It could also be a shift linkage problem, or bent fork in the transmission. How hard do you drive this car, when did it first become a problem ?
