Set the stage, foundation, whatever, sure. But industry made this country a powerhouse, and bricks that built American cities sure as shit weren’t laid by wealthy land owners.

If the didn’t do it, there would have been other people willing to do the job. They just did it a little cheaper. Not like we didn’t have the money. Oh, and btw - that “money” I just mentioned - came from wealthy landowners and business tycoons. There were a handful of people during the industrial revolution that financed all of the building. So we are right back to America being what it is because a the few elite that have money. It always has been that way. If you don’t think so, you are just kidding yourself by hiding behind the cover of “idealism” that so many people like to hang on to. Idealism != realism (sorry for the programming boolean). If you think they are one and the same, then you had better kiss your ass goodbye, because a REAL realist is going to kick your ass and take your shit.
One more thing - Mexico has plenty of cheap labor, but they are not the super power that we are.

But people still have to do shit. Without willing laborers your rich land owners would have been sitting in their houses watching grass grow. Instead of watching buildings rise and products made. LABOR is the overall driving force of the country. Labor makes things happen, money is nothing but a shortcut in the barder process. You could have a fully functional society model without money…you could not have one without labor.

You can’t draw the connection that we have willing labor WITHOUT resorting to immigrant labor. And so unemployment rises, and welfare rises, and taxes rise. First of all, this country was founded on the principle of taking what you want. I could site numerous instances of the US just taking what the want/need, and masking it under some other guise.
Secondly, I never said anything about supporting/not supporting immigration. I do, however, think that anyone here illegally should be given fair warning to leave or file papers, and then shoot the ones left.
If this were true, there would be no legal immigrants at all. If you want to stop illegals, it’s not about cutting off there source of employment. It’s more about ENFORCING OUR LAWS!!! And about not trying to change out laws to give them rights as if they were citizens - it kinda defeats the point of becoming a citizen, doesn’t it?
And I have lost jobs because someone was willing to do it cheaper - and none of those people were illegal.
And how do you propose we find these illegal immigrants? House to house checks of every house in the country in the middle of the night. Then forcing someone to show proper US gov’t identification?
It’s much EASIER, CHEAPER, AND WAY MORE LOGISTICALLY SOUND to simply cut off their ability to find work as undocumented workers. $10,000 - 100K fine/per undocumented worker employed + 1 year in jail. No company could save any money by taking that kind of risk.

One thing before I go - It’s not just the jobs they come here for. If there were no jobs for them, they would still come. Their children being born here makes them citizens, and entitles them to all of the public assistance and health programs out there. Illegals die, but their families are citizens. Killing the “root of the weed” doesn’t mean stopping employers from employing them. The root is stopping them from entering in the first place.
