Problem was intermittent, now it doesn’t even recognize a disc is in there. Not sure if it’s the motor or something else in it. It’s a CD-RW and DVD-ROM. Just ditch it and buy a new one?
yea arent they like 30 bucks ?
ya id say buy a new one, you can probably find one cheaper than 30
I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t something simple wrong with it that I didn’t know about. I saw a few at white trash mart for $45 & $60 for DVD/CD writer.
Any brands to stay away from? The $60 were an HP and a Sony.
Chinese made:)
The lense probably went bad, or is dirty.

This one will do anything that you may want to do. I have a Lite-on DVD driver and DVD burner, and both work excellent. Can’t beat the price and if you order tomorrow it should be at your door by Friday.
My combo drive a sony…it has never given me a single problem burning or reading
it may be correctable. did this occur after removing a certain program from your computer?
Follow the directions here to delete the upper and lower filter values in the registry. Then remove the device from the Device Manager and reboot:

you may be able to try a system restore as well for a quick test as a first try ditch. this may guide to a software or hardware problem. if it works after system restore then it’s deffinetly not hardware related but probably due to a corrupt driver. i’d try a restore to a few weeks back first.
No programs were removed. Would that cause it to sometimes read a disc and sometimes not?
I think I’ve decided to just buy a new one anyway so I can burn DVDs.
If you have any questions, let me know and I can help you with burning DVDs or installing it although it’s pretty easy.
jeff … i’ll give you one
I appreciate it, but I already bought one and installed it last night.
