When my wife got hers, about 2 years back, I took a digital photo in our house. Printed on photo paper, and gave them that and her PA photo id. They copied the id, and kept the photo on file.
But to anwser the question, take two forms of ID, and a nice color photo, our even an ole ID with a photo that looks like you. Then they will run your social through Instant Check. If all comes back clean, they may or may not do a back round check. If the do a backround check they just go see your listed references, nieghbors, and if they check out then they talk to your reference.
I know about ten people that walked in and walked out 15 minutes laterwith their permit, and others, like my wife, that waited about 4 weeks.
