the only subarus that had issues with gears were the 5 speeds… they are WEAK from the factory… the stock sti units have been proven to hold well over 600tq and 800+ whp

good clarification… they are better than the 02-03 “glass” trannys… but buschur racing still managed to shear 3rd gear on theirs with only an sti turbo/intercooler and exhaust/intake upgrade… (which was 295hp and 395tq)

stock sti 6 spd with the exception of a exedy triple plate took big valley (worlds fastest street driven sti) to a 9.6 @ 150+

HP numbers dont matter on gear sets, its the initial shock, and the torque the engine produces that will strip the gear set… as we know HP is a made up number for people to brag about.
i saw my buddies WRX with an 18g, tuned by World One in seattle strip RA gears on his 2nd run… first was a 110mph trap, 2nd run he lost first gear out of the hole… had under 1000 miles…
