Seems like a rather stupid and costly idea.
Well, the problem is you can’t simply release these people back to the general public. I can show you a mountain of evidence showing these offenders are almost never reformed. Until we admit that high risk sex offenders should get life sentences, what would you suggest we do with them?
Castration. Why spend millions keeping them locked up? Snip. Snip. No more problem. Granted that’s pretty barbaric but I don’t think you’ll find many who will argue…
I understand we can’t throw them back into the world without expecting them to repeat the same crimes. However, my concern is for the patients of the hospital that are legitimately there because they are also a harm to themselves and others. I can’t imagine they want to be lumped with sex offenders and substance abuse patients. This makes treatment of their ailments even more difficult.
Why not tougher penalties? Keep them in jail.
Actually, it’s been proven castration doesn’t “fix” them (pardon the pun). They still continue their attacks.
Hey, I’m all for locking the high risk offenders up forever. I’ve read enough on the subject to know that the only way to stop these types of criminals is to lock them up forever or kill them. The ACLU however is never going to allow either.
The problem is our entire criminal justice system is designed on the idea that criminals can be rehabilitated. If the system admits that some criminals will never be rehabilitated then it has to jail, or at least tightly monitor, those criminals for life.
Fine then. Slave labor.
sounds like a good idea to me. i don’t care how much it would cost, it’s gonig to a good cause.
they don’t deserve to be out in the public
Put convicted sex offenders in general pop. of prisons.
Problem solved
Sex offenders are the only people that get treated/beaten/killed more than ex-cops.
(depends on type of offense)
A majority of criminals can be rehabilitated, but you’re right that many sex offenders can’t be. I agree with harder penalties for sex offenders but at the same time many of them do need psychiatric help.
What needs to happen with the justice system is we do need to admit and separate those who can and cannot be rehabilitated, we also need to stop putting non-violent drug offenders in prisons. Once we can get to that point we could actually focus on rehabilitation and try to make a lot of those criminals functioning productive members of society. Prisons don’t do anything for society as a whole when all you’re doing is changing physical surroundings of the prisoners, when gangs, drugs, etc… are allowed to be present in a prison you’re just packing criminals closer together than they were before. Most people can change if given the right opportunity and environment (now I’m not saying prison should be a warm happy place but it shouldn’t be a place you go just to do time). They also need to be welcomed back in to society if your only job options are $5/hr McDonald’s jobs odds are you’re going to go back to the quick money.
god already created the perfect natural fix for sex offenders…
silenced zip guns …
Are psychiatric facilities even capable of handing these people?
I would imagine it’s the same as handling a violent psychotic, which they already have to deal with.
Kill them? :gotme:
Or we could just kill them, and save the time, effort and money…
I’d support it, but the bleeding hearts won’t. They’ve pretty much stopped the death penalty as it is.
So, besides the fun one liners of, “just kill them all”, does anyone have any realistic suggestions? When you stop and really think about the problem you realize how difficult finding a solution is going to be. That’s why I think the psychiatric center idea is at least a step in the right direction.
I meant with “treatment.” I’m fully aware of their capabilities of dealing with “violent psychotics.”
I just have a hard time lumping them with psychiatric patients, but I suppose if you consider it a “disorder” then it opens up the possiblity of treatment. It also opens up protections under the law that I’m not certain should be provided to sexual offenders. And do we deal with this disorder as we do other disorders? Similarities?
Psychiatric hopsitals aren’t necessarily effective anyway. Do we propose that we have the psychiatric patients sit around in a circle with the sexual offenders and discuss things that are affecting them? I don’t know how they’re going to necessarily relate. As irrational as a majorly depressed person is, their assumptions about being grouped with sexual offenders would hinder their treatment.
And then, of course, these people generally do not think very highly of themselves. Just an opportunity for sexual offenders to strike. Unlikely inside the hospital, but who knows what will happen outside. Are the best interests of the patients in mind? They literally sign their rights to the hospital, as such the hopsital has an obligation to take efforts to keep them safe. This is a major conflict of interest.
Bha. It’s an idea, but is it a good idea?
^^^ sex offenders would have to be kept totaly seperate
can have a sex offender talking about his love of childer around a psych patient whos fucked up because daddy used to rape her or something like that …
on this topic… has anyone been watching dr. phil lately with that jeremy guy and his daughter? i really want to know if he’s been molesting her or not… he’s been on the show like 3 times already…
