Supreme Court rules sex offenders can be held indefinitely

Opinions?

I’m split about 95/5, 95% of me happy because I know how bad the recidivism rates are and how these people just don’t change, 5% concerned about the precedent this sets. Holding someone beyond their specified term is scary stuff.

Maybe we should have just changed the sentences to life without the possibility of parole for dangerous sex offenders?

EDIT:
The actual decision is here:

Maybe life with the possiblity of parole would be a better way to put it, so If they are deemed to be safe to society then they can be let out on parole, if not, let them rot.

I say death penalty and/or medical testing for all the serious offenders.

In all honesty, let these bastards burn alive.

Good in that it keeps them off the streets.
Bad in that it creates a VERY slippery slope.

Proper sentencing would make MUCH more sense.

+1

Maybe a conditional one?

sorta like the US uses wars as a pretext for scared citizens to rally behind while they take away our freedoms now they are using sex offenders to strip a little more away…

“VERY” scary stuff, while by no means do I support the sex offenders on this issue I worry more about our civil liberties, I mean this is supposedly why US citizens have fought and died in wars for the last 200+ years isnt it???

also wtf does this mean for those tricky situations like a 18yr old with a 15/16yr old ect ect

hmmm

So why not sentence them to life with out parole

I don’t understanding having someone serve their time handed down by court then not being allowed out.

Edit: pretty much what everyone else said

proper sentencing and optional chemical castration for early release. I really dislike the idea that anybody can just be held forever without a trial.

also keep in mind, just you streaking at a college party and getting nailed for indecent exposure, can net you a sex offender status… there are several people from Geneseo that know this. Should they have their civil liberties taken away because they had fun at a college party? granted they aren’t dangerous but this rule can apply to them too and ruin their lives just as it can the more serious ones. Sadly now a days, getting the title Sex Offender is becoming more common than some might think. (working in a law office, i know this).
