Cookie the pup needs your help! (trying to coax $1 from your wallet)

I’m not one to post up asking for money but for this cause I really want to help.

So my girlfriend and I work with a pitbull rescue and Joanna (copperlegend) is on their board of directors. They just had to go into the ghetto in rochester and talk some idiot into giving up his injured pup so that we could get it medical care and hopefully find this little pup a good home when all better. The poor dog was stabbed through the eye and the owner wasn’t going to do anything about it. He “loves” his dog and was at the library for an hour when “something must have happened”. Luckily somebody reported the situation to us and after a lot of convincing the guy to give up the dog we have it and will be getting the dog the medical care that is needed. It won’t be cheap so a chipin page has been setup to help pay.

If you feel for this dog then please donate a $1 or whatever you want (you can pay through paypal on the page) and we can give this guy a better start to life.

the official story:

After receiving a disturbing call yesterday afternoon about a puppy having been possibly punched in the head, PLR went into the city to see what was going on. We were told that the puppy’s eye was gushing blood and looked really bad. We went to the apartment of the person who owned her to assess the puppy and talk with him. We weren’t totally prepared for the environment or what we would see. There sat a very scared, petite, beautiful little girl with dried blood on her face and a completely bloodshot eye in a not so nice environment. After some calm conversation, we talked the guy into doing the right thing and surrendering her to us. He had no money for treatment, hell it looked like he didn’t have much money to properly take care of himself or a healthy puppy much less one with a very bad wound. He said he went to the library for an hour and a half and came back to this. The atmosphere was not one I would leave a rock in much less a defenseless animal.

Thankfully we walked out of that apartment building with her and headed straight to our vet, the wonderful Dr. Scheider, who was waiting for us to bring her in. It was discovered that her eye was punctured and he recommended we take her to an eye specialist for further examination. She went to the best eye doc in town bright and early this morning. His recommendation is that the eye be removed. Her cornea is completely trashed as is her lens and optic nerve. For anyone that knows about ocular anatomy, the optic nerve is in the back of the eye. So needless to say, something punctured her eye all the way through. He said he couldn’t guarantee her sight with any kind of repair surgery and her best option was to simply remove it. The concern is that the puncture has clotted but that clot is very tenuous. If it bursts, it will become infected. So we are having her go in for surgery this Thursday.

She’ll heal, she’ll do fine, and she will adjust to only having one eye. But most of all, she will be safe and alive.

Now, we are asking for your help. As most other rescues are right now, we are pretty tight for cash. No amount is too small, $1, $5, $10 it all adds up! Help us help Cookie! This little and super sweet girl absolutely deserves it after what she has been through.

Poor sweetie :frowning:

With the flash you can see the completely bloodshot and damaged eye.

Wow, thank you all so, so much for any donation you’ve made. I’ll be sure to update this thread with her progress. She is a beautiful dog, with a surprisingly sweet demeanor despite the hell she’s been through.

Words cannot describe the situation we walked into that night. I was driving home from the gym and happened to meet up with 2 of the girls from the rescue at an intersection. I asked them where they were headed and if they needed help. The only info we had was from the neighbor, she said a guy had a puppy, it was punched in the head, and cried all night. The neighbor offered to buy the puppy off the kid (early 20’s, clearly made some bad decisions in his life) but the guy refused. She called animal control, but they said they would probably just put her to sleep (2 strikes against her - pit bull needing medical assistance). The cops couldn’t do anything because there was no proof that the guy was the one that hurt the dog. That’s where Pitty Love Rescue came in.

When we walked in, the room was thick with cigarette smoke, there were cig butts all over the floor, ashes everywhere, empty liquor bottles and all sorts of other sketchy things. The puppy was curled up on the bed, and didn’t even perk up when she heard unfamiliar people, not at all typical of a pit bull puppy. Her tail was tucked and she had a glazed over look. Her gums were pale and her paws were too warm. One of our board members was a vet tech so she started assessing the dog while our fearless leader started talking to the guy, asking him where the dog came from, what happened, etc. His story didn’t make a lot of sense but we didn’t care, we just had to get her out of there. We finally got him to surrender her, and we got out of there as fast as we could. As we left the sketchy apartment building, we were getting thumbs up and thank you’s from everyone we passed. The neighbor called us angels, gave us all hugs, and asked to be kept updated, even offered to adopt the dog after she’s well.

As we exited the building, Cookie’s tail started to wag and she perked up almost immediately. I think she knew she was safe. The vet stayed at his clinic late to see the dog, as a favor to the rescue. That evening, she slept soundly, for probably the first time in a long time, in a big comfy bed with one of her rescuers.

This was my first direct involvement with a rescue/owner surrender situation, and it was pretty nerve wracking, but I knew we had to get this little girl out of there and to a vet ASAP. From what I’ve heard from the other girls, this was not nearly as gross/scary as a few other places they’ve been to rescue dogs.

 to you and the others

Move to Network OT? This shit makes me sick.

Edit: Saw the Chip-in meter was at $1000

+20.68, get well soon pup!

I say we all chip in and buy something to beat the asshole over the head with who did this to the dog. Give me a physical address and I’ll send $20. My Paypal is fuckered

Wow, $1000 in a matter of hours. Very cool. I think that I may write up a sad story about not having a hot tub in my back yard and set up a chipin for that cause.

We did it!!! HUGE thanks to everyone!

Any extra donations will go directly to her care, and to our emergency medical fund.

Thank you guys from the bottom of my heart. Her surgery is tomorrow, I will update everyone then.

Here’s a post about her from the local dog blog:

yes! thanks so much. as Joanna said the $1000 is just to cover the immediate medical bill for the surgery… this pup will still probably need follow up care, all of her shots, a spay and so on.
