Cookie the pup needs your help! (trying to coax $1 from your wallet)

whats the prognosis on the eye?

is the eyeball still in there?

From Jenn, founder of Pitty Love Rescue

Cookie had her surgery yesterday and is doing amazing! Seriously, it’s like she didn’t even have surgery at all. She is still so lovey, snuggly, and full of energy! I picked her up yesterday at 5:30 expecting this pathetic little being that needed to heal and what I was greeted with was this bouncy happy puppy ready to go home to her wonderful foster momma Lindsay. And Foster Momma was eagerly waiting for her to come back!

Dr. Burgesser took the time to examine the eye once it was out. What he found was a bunch of clots, one so bad that it completely detached the retina. The decision to remove the eye was completely reinforced, not that we questioned him! I asked him, in his professional opinion, what could have caused such an injury. His answer…“a crushing type injury”. So our fears were confirmed that someone did in fact hit Cookie. Either with their fist or with something else. Heartbreaking. Infuriating.

The resiliency of these animals takes my breath away. Cookie is such a sweet delight and absolutely loves people. How many of us could say the same if we suffered an injury like that at the hands of someone else? Not many. Well we are taking a page from the Book of Cookie and we are moving on. She already has. She seriously loooooves people, she loves to snuggle, she gives the softest kisses, she even loves to hang over your shoulders from behind in a backwards hug. Cookie might even already have her forever home once she is done healing. Is anyone surprised by that? Nah, not at all. She is sweetness defined.

We want to thank EVERYONE who donated. You guys and your unfailing generosity blew us away. Your support, your love, your kindness, YOU guys give us the strength to keep going. Sometimes rescue is dark, it most certainly is hard, it can be scary, it can be heartbreaking and draining, but then this sliver of light shines through and all of that hard stuff fades to black. It’s the only way I can adequately describe it. You guys are that light. Dogs like Cookie are that light. So many other wonderful animals are that light. That light keeps us moving forward.

We will probably give Cookie her own meet and greet so anyone who is able to can come meet her

Thank you again guys, from the bottom of our heart, THANK YOU.

Nope, it’s been removed completely.

I visited her at lunch (her foster mom works just down the street from where I do), and she is a wiggly, happy, curious puppy like a 6 month old pup should be.

While it’s sad that the eye had to be removed, I am finding this to be great news. Very happy to hear she is doing well!

my boston terrier got scratched in teh eye by my parents cat…

she didnt loose it, but almost did…

I had to come home from vacation and give her eye drops every 30 minutes for 3 days (including at night)

But she got to keep her eye, and partial vision in it… She still is a handful and loves to play…

I got to see Cookie today!

Her stitches are out, she’s up to date on her shots and has been wormed. She is a good weight, and was playing with a younger pit/mastiff mix, an adult lab mix, and my dog Nadia for quite some time this morning. I tried to get a pic but they all came out as white blurs, she is ridiculously active and doesn’t let her lack of an eye stop her at all. She’s great with other dogs but definitely does not like cats. Apparently even with one eye, she thinks they look like tasty snacks. She is going to a feline-free foster home this evening, and she’ll stay there until we find her a perfect home.

Just an update on Cookie, a wonderful woman is going through the process of adopting her. It sounds like Cookie will be treated like a little princess in her new home! Here’s a pic from a meet and greet event at the local Petco. Her foster mom is getting me some better photos, which I’ll post soon. Thanks again guys. You all made a huge difference in this sweet dog’s life!

wow, she filled out fast.

Great news!
