Friend of ours just flew home from the UK. Her flight from Boston to here (737 or similar) had 6 people on it.
Same for my brother in law and his girlfriend coming back from New Zealand 3/27. 2 other people on the New Zealand to San Diego flight, and 4 other people San Diego to Chicago. A bit more Chicago to Buffalo. They flew out of Toronto originally so they have 1 car stuck in Canada.
Couple interesting articles I read today.
1st, about how useless the homemade mask mandate is:
2nd about a seroprevalance study showing just how quickly the virus is spreading.
The mask mandate reminds me of the government trying to fix the problem of people getting run over on NFB.
âWeâre reducing the speed limit from 45 to 40, repainting the lines at the crosswalks, and installing better lights at the crosswalksâ.
Meanwhile every single person that was hit was crossing in the dark, no where near a crosswalk, so none of those things do anything other than making people feel like the government is doing something. Exactly like mandating you wear an ineffective mask in public.
I went off on FB about the mask BS.
I posted a similar article a few posts up ^^^
Unless you can get your hands on an N95 mask AND know how to properly wear a mask, itâs not going to do shit. Itâs just going to give people a sense of false security and drive people to seek out, âthe good shitâ that hospitals are already desperately in need of.
@JayS I read that study and have a couple questions about medical terminology.
they are testing for antibodies to the virus⌠does that mean people who do have the virus or people who are immune to the virus?
it did not comment on symptoms, however, it did specify a fatality rate of 0.12% - 0.2%. in medical-speak is that a % of the total population or just the assumed infected population?
this all seems reasonably positive. however, the suggestion that the actual cases vs. confirmed cases are higher by a factor of 50-85 is interesting and maybe concerning.
âThe reported number of confirmed positive cases in the county on April 1 was 956, 50-85-fold lower than the number of infections predicted by this studyâ
Thatâs good news. That means the majority of the population theoretically has already been exposed and is exhibiting little to no adverse symptoms.
The problem is that they donât believe that the population has the antibodies built up yet, so no herd immunity.
yes i read it as positive as well.
also, this thread continues to demonstrate the value in having smaller groups of reasonable people talking about this stuff using actual evidence vs. all other more convenient social media resources.
The thread just proves the media is nothing but hysterics trying to make you all terrified because it helps ratings. âNewsâ died the second it went from a low ratings money losers the networks carried as a public service to a 24/7 ad revenue money stream.
Sadly weâre also at the point where public policy gets designed around the media hysterics.
If it is possible to defeat the media industrial complex it could only be done in the US.
So keep goingâŚ
not taking chances with half-assed protection cloth mask. picked up a good amount of n95 back before the whole thing went down.
got my stimulus check as well.
Studies coming out showing contraction through the eyes now possible. Not sure how accurate that maybe. Andrew cumhole might try to make everyone wear goggles now also.
Theyâve known about that since day one. Read my comments above.
Between ill-fitting masks and lack of eye protection, people are going keep spreading it.
Iâll play along with the mask stuff even though it doesnât stop spread through the eyes.
I have a respirator but I refuse to wear that in public for now.
This lady⌠lol:
BUT WHAT IF YOUR BOAT HITS AN ICEBERG AND YOU NEED RESCUING AND THEN THE COAST GUARD GETS SICK AND THEN THE EMERGENCY ROOM CANâT MAKE ROOM FOR YOU AND THEN YOU DIE FROM RONA?!
Just play it safe and go for a walk with everyone else and then stop on Wegmans on the way home, itâs for your safety.
Also wear a mask. Definitely wear a mask.
And theyâre already changing the boat launch rules.
yuck.
So, far I have been to Home depot, and runnings this past weekend w/o a mask, and nobody really cared. A few odd looks, but Itâs Niagara county, so I get those anyway.
I will likely wear a neck warmer in the event people decide to be dicks at stores.
My unpopular opinion for the day, is that when I see people out in the world doing nothing more than keeping a few feet away from others with no masks and gloves, I want to high-five them.
Why donât we see more news coverage on countries that did have their medical systems over-run and how much of those systems were government funded?
I guess it would be nice for Doctors to have a formal checklist to prioritize treatments when supplies are coming up short.
