We are “Yellow” and man is covid spreading big time in WNY. I know actually a few people now that have it where I don’t even think I knew personally anyone that had it the first wave.
I 100% will bet that we will be in “Orange” in no time. Cases aren’t just going to stop going up because we are in Yellow. Cases will continue to rise from whatever has gone on the past week or so.
I got my hair cut on Saturday, that’s in Orange if I saw correctly. lol
I’ll be heading to get tested now for my 2nd time. Once when I got back from my road trip which was negative, and now because of scares at work.
Since Covid started, it seems like I really haven’t know anyone who has had it. Maybe like 1 person but no one I really talk with. Now… It seems like I’ve heard a bunch of people in our area get it. I seriously will not be surprised if we are Orange by next week. We hit yellow and well… whatever is being projected now before measures were taken, just think what it will be like a week from now when the cases catch up to those that have been around covid positive people. We are in for a hurting in this area I feel.
Erie County was at 6.1% positive on Sunday, waiting to see what the numbers are from Monday. With the increasing hospitalizations I think we’re quickly heading toward another shutdown.
The state of NY is over 12 per 100,000 now too. Guess we can’t travel to NYS now based on old guidelines. lol But seriously, we are in for some trouble. Doesn’t help with all these democratic/Biden parties that I’ve been seeing all over. Big celebrations that he won. (I get it but not the time to be doing this)
I still say “daily new cases” is a stupid statistic because it’s entirely based on how many tests you’re doing. Percent positives isn’t really much better because most of the places aren’t testing a random sample. They’re testing people who have a reason to think they might be infected so it’s pointless to try and judge how widespread something is in the general community testing people who have been exposed or are showing symptoms.
Again, don’t confuse this with me dismissing covid as not a problem. It’s a serious pandemic with the POTENTIAL to overrun our hospital capacity for sure. However if you’re not going to setup test sites and test a 100% random sample of the population you might as well stop reporting test numbers because they’re pointless. Just monitor the hospital capacity and base your covid restrictions around that. Continue testing people at risk so you can isolate and contact trace, but basing your covid response policies around garbage infection percentage of a skewed group makes zero sense.
If that sampling ever happens. Clarence already said they can’t do it so they’re going full remote. But yeah, that is a more random sample and it’s of a group that I think has a much higher odds of being asymptomatic positives.
We were already told that there’s no way for us to do the testing. We don’t have access to the funding, the nursing staff, the tests themselves. ECDOH pretty much told us to go fuck ourselves today.
Also, did you hear about the 97 year old woman who died from COVID today???
This is exactly why I started preparing my kid mentally for going back full remote soon. I can’t see a district the size of Williamsville ever being able to pull off 20% randomized testing. It fucking sucks.
If my kids go back to full remote, I’m going to go try and take the family with me across the country for my projects. Just need to rent out my house and get a project in Florida.
(and set up a VPN or something so the kids don’t get kicked out of remote school for not being locked into the house in the district)
<24 hours in a red state still does not require Quarantine.
I hope my contact tracer calls and asks me why I have so many forms filled out while on quarantine.
I would love to know what drove these tests. Almost everyone that arrives from the airport is supposed to test. Note, Cuomos requirement is not enough to justify a test. No issues, no exposure to a positive case etc…
They are ~$140 unless you find a free test site.
We’re going out to dinner with a group of 8 people on Saturday. The reservation needed to be changed so that instead all sitting at one table we’ll be sitting at two tables…
On a related note, my entire admin team at my school was exposed to a covid positive student and emailed us last night that they were working from home today. Then 5 mins later we were told by our principal that we’d be working from home until Monday.
