COVID-19 Pandemic Thread [NY Now Closes All Biz]

Really curious what my brother had. He was around literally 3 or 4 people in about 3 days that had ended up testing positive for Covid. (Which is why him and his wife never went to Whiteface with me) He tested negative 3 times but had lingering symptoms of something the next 2 weeks after being in close contact with these people. A little strange getting a normal cold 4-5 days after being around all those people.

Don’t plan on the US/Canadian border opening any time soon. Ontario going into province wide lockdown for the next 28 days.

Also, B.1.1.7 now the prominent strain in 5 US regions, but CDC won’t tell us what regions those are.

Thoughts on the vaccine being “at least” effective for 6 months? I’m not getting vaccinated multiple times a year. And I’m not thrilled about adding another vaccine to my yearly routine.

I don’t get the flu vaccine and I won’t get this one. Not going to be a public test subject. At least not without compensation.

How about the big fuck up on J&J’s part. I will never get one of their vaccinations. Between the talcum powder cancer situation they have going on as well as the opioid crisis… now they mess up 15 million doses of vaccine and they pick a company with loads of violations to produce it. No thanks.

Me neither. Our district’s stance currently is the vaccine is good for 3 months. When I was questioning this with my coworkers, one explained that it was only because the vaccine had only been out about 3 months at that point. So I suppose they could extend that if the vaccine proves to hold greater longevity, time will tell. I’m not sure if there’s any similar logic at play here? Either way, as it stands currently, if I’m exposed in September, school would make me quarantine again.

I can almost guarantee I will get forced to take it for work. I dont get flu shots. I dont recall ever getting the flu

Maybe when its past the experimental stage.

My wife on the other hand was very sick after a flu shot every time she had one.

Her doctor said she should avoid it. Where do those people end up?

North Carolina is a bit odd.

Masks are required. When I dont wear one, nobody says anything, but people also wear them outside.

There are a lot of rules, but people dont follow them.
For example. Tonight at Carolina ale house, the sign says masks are required when not at the table AND when not actively eating at your table.

When was the last you were out in public spaces w/o a mask?

That’s surprising. I stopped keeping count re: friends who had it when it got to the 30’s, which was a year ago

I know 5 people who have it at the moment.

One just lost a brother to it, marking the 6th person who’s had someone die from it in my periphery.

It’s everywhere here right now, scary. I got my second shot Wednesday and after being couch-ridden yesterday (no fever though) I’m feeling pretty good today

Where are you in WNY? In Tonawanda it’s been quiet since day one

I think it’s clear that this has impacted everyone to different degrees. Fortunately I don’t know anyone who’s had it and experienced more than a day or so of discomfort.

@livin4hockey I’m 3 degrees of separation away from a NYS contract tracer who was just recently told & trained to only expect 3 months of protection from the vaccine. So, basically who the fucks really knows.

So surface transmission risk is so low that is being called “hygiene theater” when people clean surfaces…

How quickly we went from the door knob will kill you to don’t worry about surface transmission

Testing is accurate, but not accurate, but it is, also the manufacturers are filing for creditor protection and laying up 3/4 of staff because their product is ‘inconsistent’.

The truth is also false.

Had my first one with no symptoms, second in a few days. If I want to travel internationally I need it. I’m putting my vacation to good use this year.

10 days from now Miami

Cuomo is back to attacking and shaming WNY again.

It’s all our fault. He opened up our businesses and now our rate is higher again, but we should all be ashamed again.

Bad WNY, BAD!

I love looking at states like ND, SD, TX, and a few other red states who decided to either stay open, barley close, opened really early. The positive rates for them had like 1 peak and then have been steadily low. Then you look at states like NY and we have a roller coaster going on and another wave in the making now. lol Why are the states that opened wide up not reflecting as hard as NYS is while we are slowly opening? Guessing people just don’t care to test as much in those states anymore compared to NY… Or NY isn’t really testing a lot of people anymore but for those they are, it’s typically a positive.

maybe moving on is the cure?
