COVID-19 Pandemic Thread [NY Now Closes All Biz]

I was hoping to do the rest of my fence this year, but holy cow has lumber gotten expensive! That, and you can hardly ever find PT panels/fencing in enough quantities.

Yep. We had our floors refinished as part of our remodel and had matching hardwood added to one room where it was missing. Nickel City told me I actually paid less than cost for the flooring they added in because prices went up so fast after I got my quote and got my deposit down. He said heā€™s never seen it get this bad. I need a ton of baseboard trim and Iā€™m dreading what itā€™s going to cost me.

Time to invade Canada and strip them of their natural resources!

Iā€™m in. Thereā€™s enough guns and ammo in NY alone to get it done in a weekend, assuming we all ā€œfindā€ our stuff that was lost in tragic canoe accidents around the safe act implementation.

@Bing, can you open the border? I heard if you ask Trudeau nice enough he just says okay eventually.

I almost lolā€™d at the 1st world problem here.

To help with your replyā€¦ I bought a used car that gets better MPG than my shitty Envoy, but MB says it needs a minimum of 91 octane. WTF. Its a loss.

i wish it were open.

i can cross, but definitely not unless i need to.

Thoughts on this COVID Passport bullshit?

Iā€™m feeling a bit revolution-y today.

I think itā€™s bullshit and wouldnā€™t have really cared to get my vaccine as quick as I did but with my work and the government being the way they are, I already got my first shot so itā€™s whatever to me now. Sounds like my work doesnā€™t want us traveling outside of state unless we got a shot. Sounds like the US doesnā€™t want us doing shit unless we got a shot. Iā€™m just not bothering fighting this as Iā€™ve learned it seems whatever they want they get and the people get pushed aside unless itā€™s a race or gender situation now.

Yeah obviously itā€™s been pushed pretty damn hard to get vaccinated at work being education and all, plus Iā€™ve had 5 teacher friends get covid in the past month now so Iā€™m glad I just got it over with. Iā€™m not thrilled about mRNA and nanolipid particles floating in my body, but whateverā€¦maybe itā€™ll be like Compound V and iā€™ll get super powers down the road. Or cancer.

Even being fully vaccinated, I refuse to carry my vaccination card and I will not be installing some bullshit app on my phone to allow me to do something that we all did freely before COVID. I am responsible for my own health. I donā€™t need a nanny state making sure Iā€™m following their ridiculous rules they arbitrarily created without any semblance of rational thought.

So Iā€™m curious, aside from traveling to other states/outside the country, what is requiring this passport?

I believe weddings are one thing as I still have our reception to deal with in Oct that was pushed back a year. Thatā€™s either the passport or proof of negative.

Yep, I got vaxā€™d as well. Will be 2 weeks into my first shot (Pfizer) Friday. Iā€™m with you, Iā€™m not 100% comfortable with mRNA but Iā€™m also a bit overweight with blood pressure a little on the high side so Iā€™m not real comfortable with my COVID chances either. The variants tearing through Europe and now starting to become the dominant strains here was what pushed me to go find an appointment. Iā€™m going to have the card so Iā€™ll be carrying it, but I think itā€™s bullshit. I think a lot of things are bullshit though but unfortunately Iā€™m a right winger living in one of the most leftist states so Iā€™ve become accustomed to following laws I donā€™t agree with.

Iā€™ve heard a lot of rumors that when the US/Canadian border opens back up a vax record is definitely going to be required.

I could quote this and it would be 100% my exact thoughts.

This would make me get it

In the past few weeks weā€™ve had 5 people at work get covid. One of them likely spread it to 2 others through in-office spread. One of those infected employees then went home and gave it to his wife, daughter, daughterā€™s boyfriend, daughter in law and grandson.

My guess is its the B.1.1.7 variant based on how easily it spread (and that it spread to a kid) and the fact that weā€™re all good about masking and distancing, plus one of the employees infected got 2 negatives tests while showing serious symptoms before his 3rd came back positive (B.1.1.7 is known to cause false negatives in some of versions of the PCR tests because theyā€™re testing on something from the original strain that is different in B.1.1.7).

So yeah, back to ā€œshould I get it or notā€ā€¦ Iā€™d really recommend it. The more I read about B.1.1.7 the more Iā€™m glad I got the shot. Itā€™s highly likely the increases are all being driven by the variant and if itā€™s not already it will soon be the dominant strain in the US.

This pretty dense, but a lot of good info:

I went allllllllllll pandemic with zero people I know getting it. Last week - 5 close friends got it.

My wife is getting dose one today and Iā€™m glad, I want us to be over this.

My wife got her second dose last week. I got my first dose the week before. Probably should have done it sooner but the effort it took to get an appointment in the early stages just didnā€™t seem worth the hassle to me. But now that Iā€™ve had to quarantine for the second time in as many months, that is reason alone for me to go forward with it.
