Coyotes file for Chapter 11

ide rather see Winnipeg also. 2 weeks ago i went to Toronto for a tournament and between Rochester and Toronto passed at least 5 pro/semi pro teams. (amerks, marlies, bulldogs, sabres, and maple leafs) It was only a 3 hour drive

winnipeg , hartford, quebec… any of those would do just fine

the 3 teams in 80 miles isnt a HUGE deal

NY rangers NY islanders and NJ devils come to mind…

While the market and population are larger there…

The hockey population in this area can CERTAINLY support 3 teams

:uhh: I heard Kansas City wants a team :stuck_out_tongue:

Toronto needs a second team.

Leafs fans can’t even watch a live game in their home rink unless they want to shell out $300 a ticket and sit in the nosebleeds. Prices are out of control there.

Everything is corporate there. Businesses shell out big bucks to take clients and potential clients to the games and no one is back to their seats until half the period is over after an intermission.

I’ve heard the above story from countless Leaf fans that come to Buffalo to watch the Leafs every year.

That’s got to suck.

x2

Toronto can easily handle two NHL teams.

Everyone having Canadian accents…what? Are you only going to Buf-Toronto games?

One has to wonder how a second southern Ontario team would be recieved though. Leaf allegiance is very high and it might be difficult to try to steal fans.

I don’t think this team would steal fans, though. There are A LOT of Leaf haters in S.Ontario, and that’s why some of them became fans of the Sabres. Put a team of their own in their backyard, and they’ll have instant support. The die-hard Leaf fans aren’t going anywhere; it’s the fair weather fans that they’ll grab. I think it would be very interesting.

Under normal circumstances, Balsillie would need league approval to make such a move, and the Sabres source said it would be unlikely the league would grant that approval. On the other hand, bankruptcy proceedings are complicated and unpredictable, and the Sabres view this as a potentially damaging situation for the Sabres due to their number of season ticket holders from Ontario.

While there has been speculation about the Sabres having territorial rights to keep a team out of Hamilton, the fact is, there is no clear cut NHL rule pertaining to that. An NHL franchise in Hamilton could have a direct effect on the Sabres attendance, but that franchise would probably have very little effect on the Toronto Maple Leafs, who play in a vastly larger market.

Well I don’t like the sound of that at all.

I forgot to add that i first came in here hoping it was the shitty bar.

the sabres should be concerned about their team not making the playoffs damaging their season ticket sales, not another team in canuck land.

orly?

01/02 didn’t make the playoffs
02/03 didn’t make the playoffs
03/04 didn’t make the playoffs
04/05 the lockout
05/06 deep in the playoffs
06/07 deep in the playoffs
07/08 didn’t make the playoffs
08/09 didn’t make the playoffs

2 times in the last 7 seasons.

I bet sales went way up after 05/06. and now are probably dropping due to poor preformance.

I said that after they did nothing in the off season to make up for the 07/08 season and ended up buying lunch because I bet a co-worker they wouldn’t have a waiting list for season tickets in 08/09.

They’ll still sell out for 09/10 with a shitty product because it’s still better than watching high school hockey and way cheaper/accessible than Toronto games for our Ontario ticket holders. And that’s exactly why a Hamilton team scares the organization.

I’m still in favor of a ticket price hike contingent on actually spending the money to have a good product. Something like $20 per game tacked on for all seats with a clause that if they don’t make the playoffs, season ticket holders get a refund on the difference. The crazy money people spent on scalped tickets during the playoff run shows that we will pay for a decent product.

Am I the only one who thought of the bar in Depew?

No.

Great minds think a like
