Well, I guess all the freezing cold days of driving with the heater on defrost has finally taken its toll on my windshield. It cracked the other day driving home from school, and has grown to about 8 inches in 3 days. Is there a place any of you guys personally recommend to have this fixed? I’ve heard that there are some places that can fix cracked windshields as long as they’re below a certain # of inches. Or am I screwed and its replacement time?
id wait till just before inspection, and then replace it.
The windsheild repair guys do wonders, but i dont know about the Longer cracks
Replacement time. According to “safelite” and my insurance company, the crack must be shorter than 6 inches in length to repair it. It becomes a safety issue after that. I had to have mine replaced last year.
just got two of our trucks done at work f-650 and a f-150 for cracked windshields. both by ryans auto glass. they do a great job. i know of a guy in clairton that is way cheaper then alot of the other companies but he is in clairton bit of a drive for you from plum. he did my buddies barretta for like 175 or something crazy cheap.
I’ve heard good things about Ryan Auto Glass. I’d refer you to the guy who does auto glass for me (because 3 of my 4 cars I’ve had to put windsheilds in), but you’re in Plum and it would be kind of a haul. He did my Beretta for $170 and my Cavalier for $220. Just DON’T use Guardian by any means. They did a total hack job on my Thunderbird instead of drilling out the trim pieces that go up the A-pillars they took pliers to them and destroyed them. That shit ain’t real easy to find either.
I know someone who works in wholesale for auto windshields. I might be able to get you a good price on one.
Ryans Auto Glass FTW !
and i THINK that 8" is already to big to fix but i could be wrong
put some super blue on both ends of it and down the crack and it wont spread any further.
I got my windshield for my Tbird for $30, just had to install it myself.
X2
Ryan’s is the place to go. Definitely do not go to Safelite. They fucked up a buddy of mine (S10 Blazed on here) truck real bad
I had a friend that worked at Advanced Auto Glass. They can stop small cracks from spreading by drilling a small hole at both ends.
There was a crack about 12" in my windshield once and it passed inspection because it was on the passenger side corner.
I will confirm this. SafeLite sent 2 different guys out to put a rear window in my pickup and both guys were total morons.
