So i go ou tot my car sunday only to find a 4" crack up near the left corner headed towards the center. I moved the sticker there to the bottom of the crack to see if it grows. I drive to work today and it grew 1/4":banghead:
I called safelite and they said they will fix/fill the crack for $120 plus tax. New windshield is $214 installed.
Anyone had any luck with safelite? Know anyone there to drop the price? Know or a better place to go?
As for Safelite, a coworker just had his Land Rover’s heated rain sensing windshield replaced by them in the parking lot here at work yesterday. $640 just for the glass, but he has glass coverage.
it is a beater
glass coverage for the civic is $6 a yr
BUT…BUT inorder to get glass I need glass, theft, fire, flood, hail, earthquake, tornado and all this other crap (OK not really that many). But i need full comp. Thats about $120-130 a yr.
I have owned the car 4yrs so that would have been $480-520 over the years. Much more then a new windshield. So I dont feel bad for not having it because i would be “out” per say.
But now it sucks to dish out the 120 to fill it. They said if i dont like it at all at any time i can get a new windshield cor 214 and the 120 would go towards the new windshield…so in a yr from now i can just say gimme a new one for another $100
if i get glass now that wouldnt cover the cracks now…of course
At no point will the entire window shatter and fall into your lap if that’s what you’re worried about. It’s laminated safety glass designed to stay together even after all the glass breaks. But yes, the crack will continue to spread each time the chassis flexes a little bit.
If safelite guarantees the 120 repair and says if it fails you can apply the 120 toward the new replacement I don’t see any reason not to give it a shot.
Dad: He wrote pace on the ticket
Paul: Probably because he got your speed by pacing you
Dad: No that’s not it, the cop told me “you’re not allowed pace us, we’re the police, we can do what we want”
Paul: Uhhhh
CTN: :picard:
Your old man clearly just doesn’t have a clue, and when Paul did, he just made up some asinine comment…
ON TOPIC: fixing a windshield never seemed like a good solution to me, but I’ve always had glass coverage.
Comp is soooo worth it anyways; even on a beater. I’ve totalled out 2 cars on comp and gotten $$ for them, not to mention the glass coverage. Easially paid for itself.
^but when something like that happens…the next time around inst your insurance higher(for the next car)
I mean the insurance companies have to make money some how.
Yea, I think kbb has my civic around 1900. If something were to happen and I got 1900 for it then HELL YEA it would be worth it. I know its not worth 1900. Body has seen better days but it runs fine
They can not raise your rates for a natural accident. In all the comp claims to my cars my rates have not increased; and I’ve had at least 1/2 dozen comp claims; ranging from totaling a car by hitting a dear; having my hood-latch fail on the 90 and totalling another car; my truck getting broken into; as well as another 2 or 3 glass claims over the years.
If you have a liability or Collision claim, then your rates will go up; as those are “fault” claims; Comp claims are for things that are beyond anyones control.
Oh, and if you hit a deer; they give you replacement value minus your deductable, just like with Collision…
ah ok, yea hitting a dear i can see that but if something fails on your car, IE hood latch I thought they would say. Well its your car, it was probably bad and you should have replaced it. Thats good then.
What about if you spin off the road in a snow storm and hit a tree. I would see them saying “well you were probably going a little to fast”. It would probably be under collision then right
saflite cannot fill a crack as long as a dollar bill like they say.
thats a fucking croc to get them to your residence and talk you into a new piece of glass.
a crack can only be filled when the “stone chip” is infact a just a chip.
if it cracks and spreads longer than 1/8 of an inch id say can it only be filled.
find a piece of glass at a yard and get it pulled…ill put it in for 50bucks
well, if he does come and say you need a new window i cant fill it…after i told them it was only 4"…then he wasted his gas $ because im not getting a new windshield
