Credit Card Thread

You tried too didn’t you.

Originalsin should be in here. He’s bombing all around southeast asia for the next 6 months on points from rewards cards he racked up.

Even lloyds takes AMEX now. The only place I run into that doesnt take it (once in awhile, honest!) is the chinese place on delaware and hertel. Oh, and the village beer merchant on hertel, but last time I was in that place it was pretty empty… hope they are doin alright.

Had to log into WellsFargo to see what places don’t take Amex, since that’s the only time I use that card. In the last couple months:
Williamsville school bucks (for my kid’s lunch)
Carpet Factory Outlet
Funk Lawn Care
Consumer’s Beverage

And Funk says they take Amex but their site refuses to accept the 4 digit CCV code Amex uses.

LOL I forgot Andy was on here

yeah i wanna hear more about Andy’s escapades as well

im surprised www.thepointsguy.com hasn’t been mentioned yet

Andy turned me on to that site a while ago in order to get smart about cards to choose based on bonus offerings

i just spent the better part of an hour on thepointsguy’s site and googled the shit out of my card for reviews but it is so hard.

everything seems to be based on people spending a couple grand a month on a card. the benefits of a high-annual fee / high earn rate card go up beyond the other cards when you start spending $5k+ a month but i dont see any good reviews or analysis on that. i guess at that rate they assume you are a business card holder.

I’ve been actively using Discover cash back for the last year or so. I have not looked into opening up any new cards in the last 6+ months as I am closing on my first house this month.

After this house purchase passes and I don’t have anyone analyzing my credit I will be looking into some of the more rewarding cards. But I can’t complain right now. I also have two other older MC’s that I never use, but just leave my account open to show a longer credit history and better available debt ratio.

no the topic of this thread… get all your churning info here:

Churn em n burn em! Paid a total of $197 in annual fees in my life, taken easily 50 free flights and at least 25 free hotel nights.

I just looked into this now. I never have cash on me, always use credit. I know with my TD premium account I get all fees waived if I keep a minimum balance…if anyone with a scotiabank account could comment if something similar is possible?

^ sounds reasonable… i got a cheque for $3,300 on a 1% card last year

That Scotia Momentum looks like its going to be my next card. I’ve been researching this the last few days, and so far thats the highest paying I can find in Canada. It looks like the cheques are cut at the start of December, so I think I’ll wait until mid-Dec before I sign up incase I decide its not worth it after the first year. That way the cash back can be redeemed in full and the card can be cancelled before the renewal date (and the $99 fee).
