Cruiser v. Sport Bike

So I have an 08 gsxr600 and i recently just picked up Harley’s newest sportster model, the iron 883 which has only even been available for a month now… http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2009/01/26/2009-harley-davidson-iron-883/

I have tried out each of my bikes back to back to try and get a feel for what i like better about each one…they are so different its almost hard to compare

I was just trying to get some input from you guys; anyone on here have both a cruiser and a sport bike or spent alot of time on both? what are your thoughts on having both…when do you like to ride one vs the other what do you like more about one vs the other etc.

If I take a trip I want a cruiser, but all around fun factor I want a sportbike. It is a huge difference though, even a standard bike as a median is hard to compare. Power/fun - comfort/ridability

I am incredibly comfy on a cruiser… but I never feel too bad on a sport bike either… and damn sport bikes are a ton more fun… IMHO

Why not get something that can do both?

not a bad idea. Something in-between.

EDIT: never mind, you already own both

DBL EDIT: If you have both then what is the point of this thread?

Ya it really depends on what you want to do when you ride. If you wanna just hang out and go on trips with a passenger and CRUISE then a cruiser is what you want. If you wanna corner and feel power and lean into turns then you are going to want a sport bike.

Avatar I think on here has a SV650 when I saw him which was the best of both works. More upright seating so comfy but still able to get into the corners.

LOL yeah but riding for an hour at 50mp+ means one sore neck and back, no wind screen sucks

qft… you’ll get that on the cruiser he has too…

we should probably go for a ride today…lol

If not today then tuesday or wed once the rain stops.

I was out yesterday for a couple hours around Freddy and it was fucking great. I just wish I had heated grips…lol

OT… hows the 08 gixxer treating you?

I just wanted to see how you guys felt about them, everyone has dif opinions and reasons for owning the bike or bikes they do; just curious to see why anyone else here owns both or would own both besides me.

I f’ing love it…put a little over 4k on it this summer…hands down way more fun than the harley but its nice sometimes to just sit back relax and be comfortable and cruise on the harley, plus me and a few guys are doing a cross country trip this summer…def wont do it on the gixxer…going from here to seattle then all the way down the coast of cali on route 1 and then back through the lower states might kill me on the gixxer lol

Probably still kill you on a sportster. You’re really going to wish you have a windscreen for that many miles…

I am thinking about a cheap older CB to do some custom work on in the near future. Maybe a cafe build… something to just cruise around on… although a cafe isn’t always the most comfy.

plus it will prob leave you with a pretty bruised ego when you run into hessians if your riding an 883 sportster

cbs arent as cheap as they once were due to everyone realizing they are one of the best platforms for old cafe builds.

besides cafes arent meant to be comfy anyway lol

They can still be had incredibly cheap. And I know… you just quoted me saying that they weren’t comfy… lol

i disagree for a good cond early model (which are the only ones really worth building) you are gunna pay at least 2k if not upwards of 4k.

i plan to do a few minor things to it for the trip…but i was not about to buy a 20k harley right off the bat…I am just finishing up school and two bikes is already almost too much…the 883 was a cheap way to get a bike that would suit me better for a trip than the gixxer and i would not get shot when we roll through sturgis during the rally if i was on a gixxer…plus the nice thing about buying a sportster is with the new deal they got going i can take this cross country and put the projected 11,xxx miles on it that we mapped out and trade up for a fat boy or something and get full msrp as a trade in…so i really dont lose anything on the deal but tax and twelve months of 150.83 payments…not bad i think…

as far as the ego…i tend not to really care what other people think, i dont buy shit cuz i think it will impress other people, if i like it and enjoy it they can think what they want…even if i did, i dont have an income that could support my ego haha

I love those old cafe racer style bikes… who cares if its not comfy it would be a blast to bomb around in the city on!
