Samson, neither do I have 3Gs to front. However I still managed to run an event.
I’m a student and I still have a part time job.
In regards to having no drift events, I think CSCS does not really care if you guys get practice or not. As long as they get their money, they are happy.
They already get most of the money from the Time Attack guys. The “drifters” are just extra cash for them.
And about drifters. I am going to get straight to the point. There’s way too many posers and wannabes on this board. 8 out of 10 people that I’ve talked to all say that they want to build their car for “drift”. But most of the cars end up becomming cars that only take up parking spots at Timmies.
The drifters that you see at the competitions are usually all the same guys. And that’s like 15 or less than that if I can remember.
And having a practice for basically 15 people is just a waste of time and money. Unless you guys are willing to pay like $150 each for some decent track time.
At the end of the day, 240 guys are more of a “show” crowd. It’s sad but true.
Most wanna be drifters but more than half of them are all talk.
It’s cause most people realised that they suck at drifting and it’s not worth paying $80 to try and win a drift competition when they don’t get any practice. The top guys are always going to be the top guys.
You on the other hand came out of no where this season. (Which was pretty impressive). But aside from you, I don’t see many other people coming out of no where.
And it’s not even about grippers pre paying. Look at the cars that enter these drift events… they are mostly 240s.
But look at all the hardparkers on SON.
That will explain why it will be hard to get a track day going.
Like I said, it will most likely cost you guys $150 each to run a track day.
People need to understand that CSCS is running a Drift Competition at TMP not a drift Practice day.
-The amount of practice you get at a CSCS Drift Competition is more than what you would get at Drift Mania or Formula D.
-the way cars are sent out through the course 1 to 2 at a time for practice is done the same way as Drift Mania and Formula D. However much we & CSCS want to send out more cars at a time, the amount noise generated will really piss off the neighbors. When the noise complaints come-in the track gets shut down and Track gets some big headaches with the township.
-the entry fee for CSCS is WAY LESS than for Drift Mania , Formula D, Nopi Drift, Western Canada Drift Championship, and just about any other amateur competition
Chris & CSCS, thank for providing a Drift competition series in Ontario
Samson, uggh you need the fork out the $1000-$3000 just to put a deposit down on a track. so unless all the pre-pay people want to pre-pay for some unkown day then that great; otherwise someone(s) have to put the cash to book a day then tell everyone to come out. So just if its $1500 to book one day… then to book a 6 event season is $9000! and you’re on the hook for $9000 more. Also Running things on a month to month basis is hard; you just can’t plan very well and the left over open dates tend to conflict with schedules.
I’ve ran drift events over the last couple of years with Drift Nation & Drift Star.
its not fun to front the deposit down on the track day and then have a poor turn out. (i.e. lose money)
sorry but I have to pay for the roof over my head and the food on my table! (and the tires on my car)
Also when you run events you don’t typically get to drive as much as the pay people if at all.
For the matter of people pre-paying; its nice and all but the main thing is PEOPLE NEED TO COME OUT AND DRIFT!
If organizers can constantly count on a lot of drifters coming out to practice session then its possible to run events.
if you get nothing but empty promises then there’s no point running events and burning money.
Jammin911, parking lots owners, or more so their insurance companies don’t allow drift event with out barriers (concrete or water). The costs to set up something like that is in the thousands of dollars; that provided they even will entertain the idea. And calling it solo pylon event is gonna help any; insurance companies already know what drifting is.
i totally agree and i’m basically agreeing with you guys on this one (for once lol)
ya the cost is probably more than 3gs, depending what track you go to. I’m sure dunnville would be 1.5g-2g deposit but shannonville would be 2x of that and having only 15ppl show up would probably just cover 1/2 the expense.
i guess the scene just has to continue to expand with more drivers that are willing to come out and be consistent to help organizers like CSCS and Driftops. until the driver base expands exponentially, the drift scene in ontario will continue to be miniscule (sp) imo.
You make it sound like you think we profit off the drifters. Take into account magnetic number plates for all the cars, all the neccesary paper work (registration sheets, judging sheets, rulebook…), the scafolding we set up to get a better view and properly judge, the trophies for 1st/2nd/3rd, the extra stereo equipment to announce the competitors name/number/car to the crowd (yes this was missing at the last event), the effort to put together a rulebook, the effort to update the site with a points system, renting the track, having all the necessary track tools (pylons, flags, brooms, oil dry…), have staff there to help run the event, im sure theres more but its 2:30 am and I only had a hour of sleep last night as we are preparing for Sat.
Take that and 15 cars at $60…and tell me how much profit you trully beleive we are walking away with…(btw there is only 8 cars pre-registered for sat, and we only had 4 pre-registered for Aug)
I dont want this thread to get ugly but these are just straight facts, TMP wont allow us to run more then two cars at a time and this is a competition not a practice…we are trying to set a competition for the drivers to aim for and want to improve there skills for…i am not saying or do i think we run our series perfectly but we try!
we are willing to run practice sessions if the drivers speak up and come out.
Serisouly though, drifting is a very loud, dirty and expesive sport with a high chance of having your car un-drivable at the end of the day. Its no surprise that its a dying sport in Ontario and that only the same 15 people show up for all the events.
Isn’t thier FREE drift practice events EVERY weekend during the summer at Kawartha Speedway? I don’t see the validation for not being able to practice drifting in a safe enviroment. I have sure as hell never seen a FREE grip day thats for sure.
It’s not even about drivers speaking up. It’s about them coming out.
The main problem is that when it comes to drifting, you HAVE to know that your car will get beat up, might blow a motor, and possibly fuck up a lot of other things.
People on this board are just not willing to bring their nice cars with an SR swap, 300zx brakes, Racing seat, 3 inch exhaust, fmic, etc to the track.
The guys that go balls out are usually the stock KA guys or people like intense who have cars that they have built for the competition.
This is just the start of drifting in Ontario… there will be more teams and sponsors for the event in the future as the popularity increases. This should in turn create more track events to support the demand.
We are putting our very expensive Skyline out on the track to get people excited about drifting… The DriftMania event at Downsview was a great start; things do look promising… We just need to keep up the enthusiasm for the sport and not give up…
what i dont understand is when qualifying went down if u didnt finish 1,2,3
you couldnt go to the events so i gave up. but now reading the standings im getting 0’s for the days i didnt go
Chris- you forgot about all the free giveaways you guys give away before ceremonies, and the prizes for the different categories etc.
Hurricane- its free drift events but only when Dave gets authorization to hold them. I believe there were only 3 events during the whole summer, definetely not an every weekend sort of deal
