Custom gauge pod. Show off your creative side!

So I’ve been trying to figure out a new setup for my gauges and I didn’t want to do something common. This is what I came up with. This is PART 1, not the final product but a rough draft basically. Here’s what I started with

As you can see, gauge placement sucked. Good for the driver, bad on looks. SO…

Found my victim

I couldn’t find my Dremel so wire snips and sand paper will have to do :thumright:

Getting there

Once I had it perfect, I traced the outline onto paper, then traced it down onto an old children’s book cover and cut it to size until it fit snug.

I took a piece of covering off the inside of my guitar amp, matches my interior surprisingly well.
Here’s how it turned out

I realize it’s not perfect yet but it will be. I’m making a second one out of thin wood and using carbon fiber wrap to make the final piece. It will hold two gauges, two toggle switches and my hazard switch. I’ll post pictures later in the week when it’s completely done. :afro:

why not cover the back with tape and tinfoil, and lay some fiberglass over that area and then sand it to blend it into the vent peice so it looks like one unit complete, then spray with plastidip and hole-saw for your gauge placement?

I want it to look pretty flush but be accessible. I have it hinged at the top. Now that I know exactly what size it has to be, I’ll make another one that’s perfect, then saw and mount.

I’ve never worked with fiberglass, it does look pretty simple tho. It would be nice to have a fiberglass piece that fits in the dash and mounts the gauges pointing towards me.

  1. you put gauges where your center vents are? That’s super creative and not common at all! [/wonka]

  2. I’m really hoping that the next go-round is better, because that fits extremely poorly…

Thanks MR. Negative. Appreicate it. I think it turned out decent for a first attempt, notice materials I had to work with, I didn’t buy a damn thing yet. “rough draft” it’s not bad.

lol.

Wait until it’s done, 9 SE seats, black suede headliner and gauge pod done. Sexy interior. Too bad upholstry places in this area are unrealistic, I got a quote to suede/red stitch my seats, black suede headliner=$3800. Rip off.

It takes some balls to cut up the interior without ever doing anything like this before. Don’t hate. I’ll get it perfect.

You cut up a perfectly good Ferrari vent?

A child will never learn to read because you cut up his book for that.

I thought you were super anal about your car?

Thought the Ferrari dealer is the only one allowed to touch this thing after you snap before and after pics of it?

+1

You should tie your shoes, that’s not safe.

I really hate to tell you this, but they can be hard to see in that location, unless the gauges have a hood over them. See EvoMr’s gauge set up, it can be hard to read in the sunlight.

I really liked mine on the pillar in my evo, was the best way to read them quickly.

What about this panel?

^^ I really like that piece.

draw it in a cad program, then send it to me.

See if I wanted to be like everyone else, I’d buy this but honestly I hate this setup, ugly and way too common. Also the gauges I’m putting there are peak warnings so I don’t have to watch them.

I am when it comes to other people touching it.

LZ what’s your deal? You act like you have a personal grudge against me or hate evo’s? If I wanted to be like everyone else in Buffalo, yes I’d buy a Camaro.

Good work but not my style.

Haha

It’s just super annoying you constantly come off like the Evo is some super car and the thing is with the current 20-30 age group Evos/WRX/STis are more common then Camaros.

I like Evos its on my list of possible cars for a DD in fall I have nothing against any kind of imports.

Just found it funny the other thread you were super worried about who works on it…Now your hacking it up to fit gauges.

I drive a Miata, I like it a lot. Who cares?

You also
-Don’t start lame threads then argue with people who know what they are talking about
-Don’t try selling parts for double the price
-Don’t talk about your car like its a Ferrari

Fffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
