Couldn’t agree more.
im still around! lol
As someone who built something that was strongly loved/hated by the online community… the “I do/don’t like it” posts mean nothing. The ones that EXPLAIN how hilariously terrible or totally rad something was were the best ones for me to read.
If none of the critics chimed in, the OP might never know how totally terrible and ghetto that thing was…
Fuck… I probably never would have known how terrible my homemade clear corner lights on my Acura TL were back in 1999 or whatever. But I didn’t cry about the hate like a little bitch… I thought… hey… I NEED to do better.
Also I’d like to see pics of those lights some day, I’ve heard a lot about them.
I don’t think I ever took pictures… it was before I owned a digital camera…
I’m reminded of this
Mitsubishi made an aux gauge pack for the storage cubby underneath the radio, too.
To this guys defense it’s not being creative or practicing a new skill if you buy something pre made. Good first attempt. Work on it. I like what Gary did with Sams evo as that was a lot of data right in your face but like Jeller said under some conditions they could be difficult to read.
Backed. I am all about DIY. But if it sucks, then you gotta deal with the criticism… But always remember that people on the internet love to criticize stuff they could never do… so take it all with a grain of salt.
Also… I love that fucking pie cut pic.
yeah that piece looks pretty bad.
however, gotta start somewhere. keep trying and eventually youll get better. i dont care how cool people think they are, everyone had to start somewhere and has had some attempts that were major fail. ive redone things on my truck several times as its the vehicle ive learned how to do just about everything on. honestly, i would say i do better quality and build a nicer car then the majority out there, and i have complete confidence in saying that because i spend so much time turning wrenches and fabricating. im at the point now where im building entire frames from scratch but im still learning alot.
on the other hand, the OP does seem to act like the car is a gift of god. i personally dont think theyre really that great. its just another car. but his attitude is what attracts most of the hate, not his attempt at building this panel.
It’s a good attempt, but honestly, there is no place any longer that is NOT common for gauges. I would have just left them in the A pillar, where they are easily visible, and called it a day before I hacked up the vent area.
Looks like school was a “waste” for you too…:lolham:
2 way street and perfect way of thinking when posting ANYTHING online.
I am with Newman. Telling him it looks like crap, does not help. Offering up suggestions or constructive criticism might work better (like focusinprogress first response).
Obliviously this guy rubbed some people the wrong way previously. Regardless what is the worst that can happen, he needs to buy a new vent?
I did plenty of crap when I was younger that if posted on here I would have gotten destroyed for. But the feeling of self accomplishment when that custom rocker switch popped out of my tray and the neons lit up in my footwells made me smile every time. Keep trying.
QUICK! EVERYONE GET OFF THE HATE BANDWAGON AND ON THE HELPFUL BANDWAGON!!!
:GH
lol
Are you keeping it awd?
On an unrelated note, radar detectors are pretty easy to hardwire if you want to hide that wire.
Lol, Brandon out of nowhereee
It’s dead at work, I’ve got a lot of free time lol.
Where does your 4 way switch go now? I’m not going to tell you that you’re an asshole but I’d try that over again. If you’re any good with fiber glass or know anyone who is try that route. I used a column pod in my Evo. I liked its simplicity.
Side note: I wouldn’t accept that in my Evo and I wasn’t the least bit anal about it. My car saw beaches, fields, dirt, rocks, mud, snow, snowy beaches, woods, snow banks, knee high grass, baseball diamonds and lots of tire smoke in shitty parking lots. They’re getting cheap-ish… fucking use that thing. It’s fun.
If you do attempt this again check out some plastic sheeting at Home Depot or even an arts and crafts place. I would be concerned about using the book cover. It will likely start to sag on you before too long. If you have rough dimensions I can even cut you a piece out of acrylic with a place for you gauge.
I like that you had the foresight to cover it. Most people on their first attempts would go apeshit with a big black marker. Vinyl is cheap and you can get a wide variety of textures and colors if you want to make it stand out without looking obnoxious.
You only learn by doing it over, and over, and over again. I’m still improving my LED mods I started in 2009. My most recent one I built last month for a guy in Florida:
I’ve done a TON of DIY stuff to all of my vehicles, cars and bikes.
It takes practice but also some initial skill/knack. Not saying you don’t have it, just that you have to learn from mistakes. Simple mods are awesome.
