custom trunk popper for my buddy

my buddies cavalier is completely stock, but besides using his key or key fob to pop his trunk, it stays shut. theres no cable running in back, and no emergency button incase the keys are lost. Can a button be wired in to pop the trunk in the back? i would think so but where exactly would the signal wire be ran to? im kinda stumped seeing that the most extensive electrical work ive done is wiring gauges and soldering/switches. any ideas welcome =)

you need to get a multi meter or test light and meter the wires at the release in the trunk while pressing the button.

EDIT: ill install one for 25 bucks all parts included.

lol that makes it easy he wants to try to do it himself hopefully he doesnt fail epically

your username behooves me at this point. This is a relatively simple problem to solve.

yeah i know what ya mean, i can know all the calculus/solids/statics in the world, but have no idea wtf im doing here =/, experience needed!

edit: ill start with the first suggestion, busting out the multi-meter shortly!

i was the exact opposite in college. i did good enough in my classes but i was ALWAYS the guy that built/soldered/fabricated things for all our group projects.

I am “uneducated” and can figure it out…

we did this on my friends 89 cavalier a little while after he got the car. I believe there is a kit at advance auto, or where ever you want to go that will have instructions. I don’t exactly remember what we did but it worked great, we hid the button in the ash tray.

i did a lil thinking and figured it out, just spliced in through the wire that popped the trunk and ran the switch =)

genius! :nerd:
