Anyone know of where the actual release mechanism is in the trunk? The in car one isn’t working anymore, not even sure what I did. When I pull it, I see the thing move, but that’s about it, it won’t open it up. I can barely fit in through the back seats, and reach it with something, but I’ve tried all the knobs, pulleys… etc. and it still won’t pop open.
And BTW I don’t have the key to actual open the trunk…
there are two bolts on the back wall of the trunk, they are 10mm IIRC. The rubbers that pop the trunk get soft over time and it won’t pop it up. Just loosen these two nuts and lower the latch hook a bit, you might need to adjust it a couple times before you get it perfect, but get a buddy to pull the trunk up while you pull the handle.
If this doesn’t work, your cable might be snapped.
I think that’s what might have happened. When I pull it, the mechanism moves, but I don’t hear the normal click (albeit quiet). Is there any way I can get at this cable? Since I can’t get into the trunk… Is it a seperate key for the trunk?
Many Japanese model have a little switch that you can move inside the rear lock (viewable from above when the back is open) which disables the lever inside the car … this can be easily moved into the lock position by accident if you aren’t aware that is exists.
Apparently this is to stop the break-in method of drilling a hole through the floor and pushing the release lever up with a stick.
The bad news is that you will have to climb through the seats to the rear and try to release the lock manually as the cable will be useless - once you have it open you should spot the switch thing fairly easily … I would strongly suggest fixing the rear key lock too, that is the only way you are supposed to get access without the level up front.
Let me know if you have trouble and I will see if I can get some photos showing what I am talking about … also let me know if this was the trouble, it would be good to know if my thoughts were helpful at all.
