My trunk release is broken, just wondering if i can fix it myself. When i pull on the release handle beside the driver’s seat, nothing happens. What im doing to open the trunk is inserting the key, and while the key is inside i lift the hatch.
The 240sx came with a valet key. To actually make this key effective, there is a switch in the release that disables the trunk from being opened from the inside, via the lever.
Well I know my trunk will ‘release’ but it’s tricky to get to work. When I pull the handle, I have to release it slowly because the hatch no longer pops up any when release. It will just sit there. If there is too much vibration throughout the car before I get to the hatch, it will simply re-latch and I have to go back and pull the handle again.
What happens on mine is i can hear it click open but it seems as if the hatch is too heavy for it to open. In other words it doesn’t pop up. Not a big deal anyways.

usually on the hatchback models, lots of the struts blow easily. I dont know if nissan designed a strut that wasnt expecting to lift so much or something, but usually the old models tend to blow, or at least not function at full capacity. They dont cost alot, around $20USD for a pair of replacements.
Yeah, it’s the same thing with the Pulsar…careful or the trunk will re-latch! Oil the latch, make sure it’s clean and working, and get the new struts if need be.
