Cyclic redundancy error

I’m trying to copy several ~43GB files from an internal hard drive to either of two external USB drives. During the process I get a cyclic redundancy error regardless of which drive I try to copy to, so I would assume it’s not a bad sector on the USB drive (?).

I tried doing: copy file NUL: and there were no errors, so I don’t think the file is bad.

I’ve made it to this point with Google. I’m currently tying to copy a similar file on another machine to a different USB drive to see if it also gets an error. Also going to try copying to another internal drive once I clear some space. Any further ideas? File size related? USB drive related?

xcopy /c .

NTFS or FAT?

NTFS due to the file sizes. I did a chkdsk and found some bad sectors. Hopefully that’s the problem.

external hard drives ftw. Just picked up a 1tb from office max for $109.
