So yeah I installed the cd player from my car in my truck, dont know if I installed it wrong or what but now I have no dash lights lol. What would cause this? are the relays for the dash lights and the audio system on the same circuit? I checked my fuses and they are not blown.
bump?
usually there is a wire for when the dash lights come on, especially on stock stereos (illumination or somthing). i never hook it up with aftermarket cd players, ive had too many problems like this. I would find out which wire it is, cut it, tape it up or somthing, and start checking fuses. If the fuses arent blown for anything, usually there is a little black box somewhere that controlls the dash lights, somtimes in these situations they get fried, get a new one
My dash lights went out last month. I just added a small LED light to my keychain.
Did you cut the wires or use t-taps?
Double check the fuse?
I used caps on all the connections so no wires were exposed, I’ll take a look as to the illumination thing. that may be it.
so yeah I disconnected the power wires from the head unit. checked fuses, still nothing. I think it might be a bad circuit breaker (little black box thingy in the glove box). Not sure though. Grrrr. Soooo annoying.
That would be quite a coincidence.
You installed a stereo, were fucking around with a bunch of wires under the dash, and now the dash lights don’t work. But somehow it happened to be an unrelated part going bad at the same time.
Yeah, I don’t buy it. You cut a wire, installed something wrong, disconnected something accidentally, shorted something out or some other fuckup related to installing the stereo.
I know you said you checked fuses, but to humor me, look up what fuse controls the dash lights and replace it anyway. If you still don’t have lights I’d start with disconnecting the ilumination wire on the stereo and if that doesn’t work, the rest of the wires to the stereo. Also look around and make sure when yanking the old one out or jamming the new one in you didn’t disconnect some other wiring harness.
what kind of car is this? Year make model
I asked if you used T-taps so you could pull it apart easily if you had to.
What kind of truck?
Did you accidentally hit the dimmer for the dash lights?
Fuse is blown or ^ check the dimmer and see if it is off. It happens.
Typical dash lighting circuit is the Dimmer Switch, Headlight Switch, Bulbs, Fuse, and Wires. That’s all the makes up that circuit.
Word of advice: Never use wire caps. They don’t stay on. Solder wires or buy an adapter harness. Always disconnect the battery before messing with wires, Always.
My vote is still for the Fuse.
like I said, I checked all the fuses, they are all fine. I had the same cd player in the truck last winter and had no problems at all. I may have shorted out a wire or overloaded something. No fucking clue.
.
Even if the fuse looks good I would try replacing it and see if that does the trick. I hate to sound like a broken record, but 99.9% of the time it’s the fuse.
its a 1996 chevy S10 2.2 ltr 5 speed.
Oh it also killed my tail lights. I have reverse lights and brake lights, but no normal tail lights :gotme: I suck with electrical problems.
Check the tail light fuse.Physically pull it out and look at it.If you have a test light. turn the key on and check for power on both ends of the fuse. This is why we disconnect batterys when we work with electrical.
