Dealership problems /honda paint

this dealership is beginning to really piss both of us off… both of us have lost so many days work because of this crap.

her 2006 civic ex is flaking paint on the front bumper…

I took a look at it and the bumper is smooth as hell, NOT sanded, NOT primered… Its just sprayed with silver paint…

she decided to take the car back to where she bought it to tell them about the problem (washington honda) and they have made her come back and forth a total of about 5 times now for the paint problem. This dealership is a damn joke!

she has been to the dealer about 12 times in the past 2 months…
First thing was for recall work, they said it would only take 15 mins to fix and she could be on her way (it was an SRS airbag light staying on) well it took them 6 hours to fix ( so she had to call off work) , then when we got in the car it was still on… guy came out and said that he installed the wrong sensor he guessed and that they dont have anymore, she’d have to come back at a later time… she had to drive to washington about 3 more times for them to finally fix that.

now the problem with the paint flaking…
How does a 1 year old car have flaking paint? like i said the bumper isnt even sanded or primered and the paint is just peeling off to the touch.

she went out the first time and they told her they dont know if it will be covered under warrenty and that they have to have the manager look at it. so she had to come back, when she came back the next week the service person said that the manager wasnt there that day… (whenever the day before they called and said to come in and he will be there…)
so she comes back once again and the manager tells her that they have to have a “honda specialist” look at it and he is only in once every 3 weeks…
so they give her a call to come in and have the “specialist” look at it and much to everyones surprise he isnt there…

NOW… they call today and say she HAS to come in on this friday to have it looked at. this time im going with her to get shit straight with them… its absolute bullshit… my 10 year old neon doesnt have problems with flaking paint… Our 36 year old grand prix didnt have problems with flaking paint… why should a 1 year old civic??!

I’ll post pics of the front bumper paint flaking off later.
has anyone else had problems with this dealership?

maybe you should just go to a different dealership. Warranty work does not have to be performed where you purchased your car!

a 1 year old car has flaking paint because it wasn’t painted right, time doesn’t really play a factor in this. This was a big problem with mid 90s Chevys and the paint flaking off to the gray primer.

It’s definitely bullshit they keep giving you the run around, it’s gotta be somethign related, have you checked any Honda boards to see if it’s a common issue? Maybe the dealer isn’t aware of it (possible recall situation)

my sister just mentioned her back bumper on her 06 EX “looks funny”. Maybe i’ll take a look at it and see if its the same issue.

I’ve told her this many times, but since its already underway she doesnt want to go to a different dealership for this problem.

I’ve been over at 8thcivic.com and everyone is talking about the horrible paint, i’d check it out!

perfect logic!

ive heard this but i dont have any issues guess i got a good one

also the silvers seem to be the worst with the flake and the panels not matching correctly

her panels match fine, just this flaky paint shit…

more than likely if we get the bumper repainted it wont match… and we’ll have to fight with them again.

Other than my moms Honda ( and its imperfections ) the paint looks good overall…haven’t seen any issues. Sorry to hear about the bad luck. BUT from experiences sake DO NOT GO TO DEAN HONDA…they typically suck at service and definitely in the autobody dept. ( well timeframes atleast )

Baierl Honda FTW.

the funny thing is my buddy works a dealer in the area. (im not going to mention, because what im going to tell you is f*cked up) So he tells me the other day they got a bunch of cars in. And one of them had a paint chip (just cause it was on the truck chipps due occur) Anyway, they go to pull it in the paint booth, then end up hitting the paint booth. Quater panel was creased and “should” have been replaced. My buddy tells me, 45 mins go by and the car looks brand new again. He then finds out later they just mudded over it.

“It now sits on the lot sticker price!”

thats just wrong… and if i found that on a brand new car a purchased there would be legal action taken

There was a whole lot less bitching when you were banned.

I had the same issue with my black eclipse, but it was due to first a rock chip, then the paint would peel off all around it. A tiny rock chip would turn into a dime sized chunk of missing paint.

I would see what happens Friday (though you are right, it is complete bullshit what they have done so far) but just remember…if you are a dickhead, which I am sure you will be…they will dick you around even more. Dont go in there spouting off about what retards they have been, just politely explain the hassle this has caused you and you want them to make it right. If its not taken care of on Friday, then raise holy hell, tell them to go fuck themselves and go to another dealership. I possibly have a hookup at the honda dealership in Greensburg (not sure if he still works there or not, and its a friend of a friend) but I could surely check it out if need be. Let me know.

Good luck with the situation. It sucks.

I’m grinning a mile wide right now, it’s nothing personal

I’ll be honest, no one likes warranty work, it doesn’t pay anything. most likely the shop’s just hoping you’ll go away, maybe somewhere else. I wouldn’t give them the satisfaction at this point. Unfortunately it’s places like this that give all dealerships a bad rap.

I believe if you have enough problems you can file to have it “bought back” for what you payed. Not sure how honda works that out though

most plastic bumpers don’t get primer. usually just a good cleaning (wax/grease remover) and adhesion promotor go onto the bumper before base coat. more than likely when the car was painted in the factory, they probably didn’t clean off all of the mold release. sucks, but should definitely be fixed.

when not take it to another dealer in the mean time. one of the two will most likly get it worked out.

damn that sucks…this lady with a 2001 stratus came into work with her whole paint job on her car peeling off.ofcourse she was out of warranty so we couldnt do anything about it.she was pretty pissed.

BTW the1slowr/t, where you around the century III mall area about 2-3 weeks ago?I saw a black r/t whit stripes driving past.

you need to go above the dealers head, and talk to the local Honda Rep

that within itself is amazing…neons paint sucks ultra balls but about her honda that’s bs…new cars aren’t supposed to have problems…then again there isn’t any PERFECTLY good car out there…every vehicle will have it’s problems…the one your experiencing is on the side of being unacceptable
