So I decided to make Christmas all about me this year…well not quite since I did get engaged as well, but I bought myself a new truck. Figured it was time to upgrade and this is a truck I’ve always wanted to own.
It’s a 2015 GMC Sierra All Terrain and I am totally digging it so far. I never knew a truck could be so comfortable and have everything right at my fingertips. I guess I’ve come along way since just wanting to own Hondas my whole life huh? :ham:
It was a big jump in premium. Multicar discount and homeowners bundle helps, but it hurt me in the wallet no doubt! I just told myself it’s time to work a little harder if I want to have nice things.
My only complaint on this truck is that the headlights totally blow. They are the projectors and they project like shit. Night driving is tough, so they will be getting upgraded. I did order the led replacement bulbs for the fog lights, should have those tomorrow.
from what I remember reading the stock hids are not even 35watts. Headlights are my biggest complaint on my 16. Just looked back to the article, damn GM cheaping out with a 25w hid.
I was reading about their lights and I’m torn on whether I should go for the led light upgrade or just bite the bullet and get the HID kit.
2015 GMC Sierra Forward Lighting Unlike the 2014 model, GMC decided to equip the 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 HD, 2500 HD, and 1500 with the same headlight design. All three 2015 Sierra models a single 9012 halogen bulb as a high and low beam bulb. A 9012-halogen bulb is a single filament bulb, which means that a moving shield within the headlight controls the high and low beam patterns. Historically vehicles used dual filament bulbs (H4, H13, and 9007) to accomplish low and high beam, however the 2015 GMC Sierra’s headlights use a moving shield within the projector headlight to switch out the beam. Here is some information about the stock 9012 headlight bulb that the 2015 GMC sierra uses:
The Sierra’s projector headlight makes it a perfect candidate for a headlight kit. You’re not going to go wrong whether you go with an HID kit or an LED headlight kit. A 9012 HID kit will get you the brightest possible output (approximately 3200 lumens), but a 9012 LED headlight kit will get you 2500 lumens and is a simple plug n’ play upgrade. The Sierra’s stock headlights produce around 1200 lumens, which means that you’re getting an improvement either way. The nice thing about doing this upgrade, is that you’re instantly upgrading your truck’s low beam and high beam, given that the vehicle uses a single bulb for both!
The 2015 Sierra uses a low-wattage 5202 bulb to power the fog lights. Unfortunately, these bulbs don’t do much by way of lighting up the road, and will definitely stick out like a sore thumb if you’re upgrading your low beams to HID or LED. While we do carry 5202 HID conversion kits, we strongly urge you to consider a 5202 LED fog light bulb for this upgrade. 5202 halogen bulbs are low-wattage bulbs, and retrofitting an HID kit in this housing may result in damage to your truck’s stock fog lights. 5202 LED bulbs may not be as bright as a 5202 HID kit, but you won’t run the risk of damaging your Brand new Sierra’s fog lights and/or fog light harness.
I agree 100%. I should also add that I did have a 2008 Silverado prior to this, so I’m not new to the truck world, but the upgrade from 08-15 is a world of difference.
In addition to selling insurance, I own a janitorial business too. This is used on a daily basis for that as well and my business pretty much covers the cost of owning this truck. That’s the only way I could afford this vehicle at this time in my life. I’m 29, just got engaged and I’m looking to buy my 2nd house. Things are right on track for me and I felt it was time to treat my self to a nice vehicle.
Congrats on the engagement and nice truck! GMC makes the nicest looking trucks hands down, while I like silverados too as they are close, GMC takes the cake.
