Deck Install

Ok here’s the deal, this s14 came with no deck so I decided to see how the previous owner wired his. I am a noob when it comes to wiring which is why I am posting pictures so someone can tell me what the hell is going on with this. There are 6 cut wires, which I would assume go straight to the deck, though it might be a better idea to get a connector for it. The other wires looks like it is connected with some speaker wire which run straight to the speakers.

So I guess what I’m asking is is it as simple as finding out where those 6 cut wires go or is there more to it?

does the s14 come with 6 speakers? i wouldnt know im new here…
if you want a quick easy way to see which wires go to which speaker get a 9v battery and connect each set quickly and youll get a distortion/static noise from that speaker! viola!

just do it quick! dont hold it there…

yea, 2 for both doors, another 2 for the a-pillars, and 2 on the rear deck.

well do what i said and youll know… then just connect them straight to your deck…

UNLESS you have an aftermarket amp, then you run wires from your deck to the amp and then to the speakers…

I would have liked to buy an after market harness that connects to the oem radio harness so I could have the option of removing the deck at any time. 240s are supposed to have 2 oem radio connectors, one with 10 poles, and the other with 6 poles. But mine has no connectors, I am wondering if I could just buy a 6 pole connector from nissan and use that with those 6 loose wires.

oh hai, look what I found under the passenger seat. Guess I now know what that extra wiring was for in the above pics. So I need a amp now right?

LOL! depends on how much work you wanna do…

if it was my car id just wire it straight to my deck and get an amp since all that work is already done for you

Yea, now I’m looking at which amp to get for the best bang for the buck. BTW, is it safe to touch the red wire? I was thinking about removing the electrical tape off it lol.

you will probably need a crossover to run your fronts properly. The tweeters on the a-pillars will only want to see high frequency, so unless your deck has the ability to crossover… I wouldn’t run full range sound into those tweeters…the amp the guy had under the seat probably had a high pass filter on it. proceed with caution.

Well, I haven’t bought anything yet. I am new to the audio world so don’t know those terms like crossover and high pass filter… so any links to the right amps and decks to use that are affordable would be helpful.

if there is only 4 sets of wires at the amp there might be crossovers somewhere in the car. check under the dash/glovebox or in the door panels…

really if you have no clue what your doing just go to a shop ans have them set you up fully, because after you install your amp you have to tune it…

At the very least, ask a friend who knows what they’re doing. They should be able to figure the set up out just by looking at it and recommend what you should get to make it work.

lol i have a speaker amp for sale yeah its safe to touch the red wire just dont lett it hit metal its just positive it wont shock you if you touch it but i would keep the tape off if it is just chilling save you from popping an inline

if youre going to try to rebuild the stock harness by getting OEM connectors, you’ll have to pin them (meaning putting the wire into the connector) the same way they were from the factory

which means using the exact same 2 connectors that were on the car originally

otherwise an aftermarket harness adapter won’t work (because the wrong wires will connect the wrong things)

your best bet is to get an FSM and check the wiring diagram to see each wire’s function

off the top of my head: blue is +12v accessory, red/black is +12v constant, red/blue is +12v illumination

thats how it is for S13s anyway… S14s could be different. so look it up in a wiring diagram.

I don’t know WHY the hell the speaker wires are run between the radio and passenger seat. that is quite retarded. that is not how you install an amp.

as for the oem tweeters, they might well have an HPF (high pass filter… a type of crossover that only passes through high frequencies, so your tweeters dont blow) in line with the wiring already… but dont risk it: check first.

if the above terms mean absolutely nothing to you, it’s time to start reading! a lot. or get someone to come by and show you what you need to do

i recently had a fuckn ton of fun with this shit myself
