i was impressed with the 4-point i got from them for the price.
could be improved by welding larger footing areas though.
mine won’t have those big white things tho… at least not by tonight.

whoever installed the harnesses in that car is the retarded.
also make sure to pad everything within reach with sfi padding.
Newman, PLEASE pad everything appropriately, and as was stated, whoever installed those harnesses is a fucking retard. Stick with the 3 point or install them correctly (and get the harness bar welded in the correct position). Unfortunetly I’ve found with Autopower that the harness bar is in a universal position which makes the cage a death trap for 99% of cars (if they were to get into an accident).

So what would be the overall purpose of the cage in your daily? Do you actually plan to autocross/track the car? Or maybe even rally it? If this is going to stay your daily driver and nothing else, you’re really just wasting your money.
As for the question at hand: I really can’t see a bolt-in cage being anywhere near as safe as a properly welded-in cage.
I dunno, I hear a lot of “For the Price” but at the same time, lots of people who who have gotten autopower stuff and say it’s one step above monkeybars…
why would a bolt in cage be less safe than welded? welded might be a bit stronger but really the structural integrety is in the piping, not in the welds/bolts. i could be wrong i guess, i dont know much about cages.

But back on topic–with your current arrangement this is the only real way to go.
almost all of the autopower race roll bars are scca, nasa, and imsa legal. they are not nhra legal. for a full cage afaik they need to DOM, which autopower offers.
with proper installation, harnesses, padding, seats and seat positioning, they are certainly a safety upgrade, and stiffen the chassis significantly. is there better available? absolutely.
hack job installations or trying to combine say an unpadded bar with improper harness mounting is asking for disaster.
Newman, how much are you planning on spending on this? I’m willing to bet one of the local cage fabricators can do you something custom (similar) for $600-$1000.
my dad said do it right and get a cage welded in… he lost a friend to a bolted cage drag racing… just to save a few bucks
Did they prove that it was due to a bolt-in point failing? I’m not denying that a proper weld in is better, but a bolt in cage with large enough backing plates sandwiching the metal is fairly strong. I remember some people on honda tech a few years back saying that a bolt in roll bar (4 point, mind you) was the cause that a friend of theirs had died. It turned out that he went into a pole or tree sideways at around 70 into the driver door. :bloated:
Nothing is going to make you invincible.
Custom is nice, but id guess itd be closer to $2k for a 6/8 point, with a lot of down/fabrication time.
