yes most likely. does it look like they are peeling? like the compound is rolling over? or are they wearing evenly/smoothly
yeah, it looks like someone took a cheese grater from side to side on them :rubicant:… looks like im saving my $ for a tru trac after all
i get that too in all honesty. a lot of it is from spinning. once i learned to control the power better, the tire wear became more “normal”
Detroit Locker --> Off-Roading
Spool --> Drag-Strip
Posi --> Street
Spools are terrible for your axles on the street and I would know, my Corolla is sitting with a broken axle right now. It’s not just the twisting force that causes damage, it’s the snapping back and forth as your inside tire hop, skips and jumps around a tight turn struggling to stay the same speed as the outside wheel. The steering wheel also fights you in every turn, they wear your tires out and if one tire is a little bit shorter than the other from uneven wear, the car pulls in that direction. Just get a posi differential.
:cjerk: listen to someone with little common sense or experience.
Go with the Detroit Locker they are much better than a spool on a street driven vehicle with radial tires. The only way a spool is driveable on the street is with non-radial tires because they allow sidewall deflection.
FYI - for all the people who are unaware and keeping humping the “posi” train the only differential available for a 9" with 35 spline axles is a Detroit Locker or Spool. To get any type of posi unit you must step down to 31 spline axles
^^ jesse is that you or JnJ still using your account? you seamed cool.
crazyLT1 post this on NYfbody, or a simar site. Listen to the people that have driven both. Some people are fine DD a car with open headers/no heat. But check out what people that have had both think.
yeah but thats the thing, i havent beating on it THAT bad, and its only been a little less than 300 miles on these tires. Last year my friend got about 4k miles out of a set of Mickey Thompson ET streets with weekly trips to the track and burnouts galore, and i know the MT’s are a softer compound than these BFG’s. The only thing i can think of (and it makes sense) is the spool that is killing these tires.
So as soon as i can afford it, JnJ will be getting a call for a tru trac and 31 splines
well it definitely isnt helping. there is no give, and the wheel needs to rebound somehow
I have a Detriot True Trac in my Moser and 33 spline axles and have never had a problem, I say do it… especially if its 1500 bucks
EDIT: mine was on a race track one time before and had a stock rear end which proceeded to come apart… I’ve been driving the Moser on the street ever since it was first installed
Alignment??
I mean you were missing some parts from your suspension
It was 100% a JNJ post.
The spool will accelerate the tire wear a lot. If you decide to run M/T drag radials don’t get caught in the rain with a spool, or if you do, keep the speed below 30 and STAY off of the thruway. You won’t hurt the axles in turns, the tire scrubs. 35 spline axles are a little stronger than rubber tires.
I know you like to drive your car a lot and only frequent the track here and there, so I really don’t think a spool is for you.
Might be J&J but that doesn’t mean you aren’t stupid
thanks, yes I am very stupid.
If I need any help on airfilter, procharger belts, and tuning I know what not to do.
crazyLT1 PM johnny5 he went from a locker he had for a while. To a spool last year, so he has some street miles on both.
I had a Detroit locker in my Jeep. I hated it on the street. If one tire is slightly larger than the other (a couple lbs of air pressure) it will cause the truck to pull on accell, & jump the other way on decell. It was loud when locking & unlocking, The only thing it was good for was off roading. Get a posi or a tru track.
I have drivin a spool, locker, and own a 9in true-trac and for a street driven car true trac is definatley worth it. I only paid $2,200 for my 9in new with a moly driveshaft so i am sure you can find one used for under 2k all day so 3-400 bux imo is worth spending to enjoy the car more.
i have a fully welded rear end in my 240 and i drive it almost everyday except for in the winter. its really not that bad just sucks getting into tight parking spots. and everyone at the gas station always looks when they here me chirping when i turn lol and welding it was free cant beat that
Get a set of Hoosier QTP’s. They last a lot longer than drag radials. I’ve been there and done it. But if your always roasting the tires nothing lasts.
