Hey guys I just thought of a crazy idea after thinking about my Toyota Tacoma’s open diff. The Tacoma came with an option for a Diff lock and I was wondering if anyone thought of doing some kind of crazy swap for the 240.
So for example normal driving conditions you have an full open diff. Then at a flip of a switch you have a fully locked diff for fun things like drifting.
This I think this would be the holy-grail of diffs for the daily driver and weekend drifter in all of us.
What do you guys think?
i was thinkin the same thing a few days ago when i went offroading in my buddies jeep
I just wonder what it would involve and what the simplest way to do this is.
Most diffs I looked up that have this design are single axle trucks and ARB makes an aftermarket one. If some how someone could get it to work it would be one hell of a strong diff over and above the diff lock idea. Why go 300zx or aftermarket when you can run a truck diff. That thing could most likely take up to 5-600 hp stock on small cars like ares.
I’ve thought of this too. I’d imagine you could contact ARB and get a carrier to suit the 240 diff. Might be worth a shot. Just remember if you run an air locker, you have to run a compressor… or you could run an electronic locker like the Tacoma, but I don’t know if any aftermarket support exists. And with an E-diff you need to have a different case because it needs to have room for the solenoid.
