Differential Welding Available @ Centerline
Welding the stock differential is a popular modification. This modification is typically done to a drift car, but many do have this same option done to their street cars. This may not be favorable modification to have done to your daily driver, but this can be a livable experience.
The Pros:
- Breaks Traction Very Easily
- Makes Drifting Easier
- Extremely Durable
- Cheap Replacement Differentials
- Little Maintenance Required
The Cons:
- Requires Taking Corners Differently
- Tires Make Noise At Low Speeds
- Will Increase Tire Wear
- Can Cause Wheel Hop/Shake While Turning
- Not Recommended For Grip Driving
Welded differentials are done by welding the spider gears together. When welding you must take special care to make sure the welds are durable. These welds are recommended to be done by MIG welding using high heat to cause a high rate of penetration and coverage. TIG welding is another process, but we don’t recommend this as the coverage of this type of weld isn’t favorable for something that must sustain a high rate of abuse and tend to fail.
Most will tend to try and use a hobby MIG welder to complete this, but I wouldn’t recommend this as most small hobby welders can not provide the penetration of a bigger MIG welder.
