DirecTV HD Subscribers.

DirecTV will be launching the new HD channels any day now. To check and see if you are ready for them please check channels 9300 and 9301. The will be testing all the new channels in those to spots until they are ready. You should see ether A: a 721 message or B: a channel. If you see just a blank screen or a 771 message somthing is wrong with your system.

And here is the list I was issued…

We’ve had YESHD because we are in the Yankees home market. It’s coming off the MPEG2 satellite, not the new one which is MPEG4. Also, the Discovery HD Theatre that is on channel 76 is it’s own channel. The new Discovery HD that is coming in October is a HD feed of the current Discovery channel (channel 278).

I watched Discovery HD on 9301 last night. The picture looks good. Aspect ratio is good too. I think they’re shooting for Wednesday of this week. That was what I last heard.

Oh and if you’re a real satellite junkie the http://www.dbstalk.com is your friend. Way too many sat nerds on there (like me).

Sorry if I’m telling you all stuff that you already know.

so are they just going to assign channels without telling us?

like they did with yes?

sounds good tho.

From what I have heard the channels will be seamless. When they go live (most likely tomorrow from what I’m reading now) if you want to watch CNN in HD, you just go to the normal CNN station (channel 202?) and it will be HD right next to the SD version. Just like the locals are. Where you hit 7 for WKBW and it’s the HD one but if you go up a channel it’s still 7 but its the SD version. That sounds confusing but if you have DirecTV, you know what I mean.

yup, very familiar with how they name theyre channels, lol.

well this is exciting news, cant wait.

sick of watching survivor man in SD!!!

lol

probably.

with dish i will be flipping and all of a sudden find a couple new HD channels.

test channels down

But i am getting channel 498 so im good to go

I was starting to think I picked wrong when I went with Dish and then heard DTV was getting all this new HD. Looking at the list of channels coming up the ones you guys are excited about I already get, and a lot of the other ones you’re getting I wouldn’t watch anyway. For movie channels I only get HBO, which I’ll probably be dropping now that Sopranos is over.

MSG HD might be enough to make me switch though. I haven’t got that long left in my contract. That and FX/USA are the only ones I see in the new channels that I don’t get that I would want. I’m guessing Dish will probably add FX/USA in the near future.

Is Dish using MPEG2 or MPEG4 on their HD?

lol half of dish is what voom used to have.

JUNK

MPEG 4

Dish adds the channels as they become available.
