i think for side impacts it could be just as good as standard doors, the real problem is ground clearance. theres a huge amount of wasted space under the car when the doors are up.

also, undercarriage damage that could be otherwise ignored might cause the doors to no longer function. can you imagine taking your car for repairs and finding out the tech put the lift arms in the wrong spot and now you have to be all dukes of hazard to get in and out ?

My car would have these if I were an oil prince.

I’m thinking of all the times in my life that car doors have frozen shut and what a bitch it would have been had they been this design.
