Ok, so I dunno how many of you have your car so low that it’s rubbing through your wiring harness but I figure this would be useful. I haven’t seen any DIY threads for s14 so I figured I’d do my best to write one and take pictures as I did mine.
Now I know some of the steps are missing pictures, I found it difficult to take pictures and work at the same time. And also the way my car sits now, I already had the bumper off so unfortunetly I don’t have pictures on how the front bumper comes off, but anywho let’s start.
Hope you guys find this useful.
What you’ll need for this job:
- 10mm 3/8" drive short socket
- 3/8" drive ratchet
- 6" and 3" extension
- zipties
- philips screwdriver
- penetrating fluid
- hydraulic jack
That’s about all the necessities you’ll need…
Be cautious when removing the bolts depending on how rusted the car is, some bolts may be seized, so soak them with penetrating fluid.
Jack your car up so you have room to stick your hand in the wheel well.
Ok so first you have to remove all the bolts holding the driver side fender on.
There are 3 10mm bolts along the top of the fender. Remove those three bolts.
Next, you’ll find two 10mm bolts located at the bottom of the fender. (These two may be seized pretty bad, so be sure to spray some penetrating fluid on them first.) Remove those two bolts. There is also a 10mm bolt inside the fender, you’ll be able to reach it using the 3" and 6" extension together. You have to go in from the front of the fender.
You’ll have to remove the fender liner as well, there are a series of clips holding it in as well as screws. Take a look in the wheel well and you’ll see 5 philips head screws holding the edge of the fender liner in. On my car there was only 3, because 2 had be missing when I got the car. Once the fender liner is out, you’ll be able to reach the bolt inside the fender.
The next bolt is located in the door jam. Remove that bolt using the extensions as well. You need to open the door in order to reach this bolt, and even then it will be kind of akward.
Next remove two bolts on the side of the headlights, and one holding the front of the fender to the rebar support.
Next there is one bolt, and one philips head screw at the side/front of the fender.
Once all those bolts have been removed, You’ll be able to pull the back of the fender out, and slide it backwards to get the front off. (NOTE of caution: My car had a few screws, and clips missing already, so be sure to take a good look making sure you haven’t missed any.)
Now once the fender is out of the way, You’ll see two plastic clips holding the harness as well as the hood latch cable. Open them up to gain access to the harness.
Once you’ve done that, you’ll be able to pull the harness up higher and start securing the harness with zipties. Pull the harness up to wherever it can reach the furthest. Address any areas where you think the wheel could rub the harness. This is what I ended up with.
Once this is done, put the fender back on. I chose to coat the bolts with some anti-seize so that in the future they will be easier to remove. And you’re done!
I hope some of you have found this useful, and again my apologies for the lack of step by step pictures.
