Well I did this because i didn’t feel like having the XM receiver hanging out on my dashboard in plain sight. With all the thefts of gps and XM crap i figured why not remove something and make this work.
I started with a plain old M6 console for the T/A.
I removed the ash tray and it’s components then went to town with a dremel on it. It ended up a lil something like this:
As you can see i lined the edge of the hole with a piece of Vac hose (thanks Turbo) and it turned out quite decent. I was going to make a mount up for it but it is such a nice press fit in the hole i won’t be needing it.
Here it is in there:
I like it because it’ll keep it off the dash and hide all the damned wires for it. And some other shots of it.
and why wouldn’t it work? merely plug in all three wires. not rocket science here. all three wires do in fact plug in with plenty of clearance, so unless it’s broken internally…
okay well the console is at home and the car is stored. i do not have a harness in the car so i won’t be powering anything up, and it was test fit into Turbo’s console to which it looked sexy. So yeah i’d say my job is done. Considering i said my DIY was XM into console. i see it in there. i win. Douche.
lol its all good, i was more or less poking fun/more interested in seeing it installed. the first thing i did think though, is having it that close to the cup holder is going to be a pain. i dont know if you actually use your cupholder for its purpose, but thats a close call. water/coffee/beer does not mix well with your xm receiver.
im sure this would totally not attract attention to your car being broke in to
i mean, its not like u dont have a 25th, or blue wheels, or powdercoated tips, or blue stripes
i don’t have a 25th thank you!!! it’s a 30th!!! hehe. Bobby no i don’t use that cupholder there is a swing out one next to the console that’s my main choice for cupholer. if not i throw it in one of the back ones. 4th gen fbods have 5 cupholders.
