Do you know Megasquirt II? Want a free trip to cali?

I’m picking up a Turbo Miata in Sacramento California and need somebody familiar with Megasquirt II. The reason is the car is tuned on e85 and there is no way of filling up on e85 the whole way home. You must have a laptop and know MS. I will pay for the plane ticket and rooms on the way back. Was planning on making a little trip out of it, stop in salt lake city for the day and whatever. Last stop will be at a friends in IL.

I did have my friend josh to go but I can’t get an answer out of him if he can go or not. Can’t really go any later than Tuesday the 12th because plane ticket prices go up and it wouldn’t be worth it.

Anyways, the plan is to leave on Tuesday the 12th and get back here saturday or sunday depending on how much time we take. 10-12 hours a day in the car.

Sorry for the short notice and I know it’s a long shot but figured I would ask.

Megasquirt isn’t that hard to tune, its a really basic EFI setup. an E85 tune will be 30 percent or so rich when you go to pump gas. I would plan on running regular pump gas the whole time, and go easy on it. You can easily tune it to get it going down the road. It would be worth it to learn how roughly tune it in the next 8 days. The hardest part is getting a laptop with a serial port, or an adapter that works consistanly.

I would go but I have work commitments I can’t get away from.

Why not pay whoever out there originally tuned it, change the tune for 91 oct. Itd be worth the extra money imo.

But like n20 said… you can prob just pull 30% of the fuel out, as simple as changing required fuel value, and scale the timing back a few degrees across the board and take it easy. You are gona want to have your own laptop and usb adapter (Id recommend the $20 one from DIY Autotune) to do future tuning anyway.

like others have said and its not as easy as bring a laptop down. MS has a tendency to act up when trying to install the correct ini files and versions so just bringing a laptop there and hopeing for the best is kinda taking a chance.

Get 30% smaller injectors lol

turbociv-----i dont get what you mean, MS has a tendency to act up when trying to install the correct ini files and versions so just bringing a laptop there and hopeing for the best is kinda taking a chance. i already have his project folder and msq. all i really have to do is lower req fuel, or adjust the table, and lower the timing back the 2 degrees he added… really dont see an issue… im not changing the firmware, just adjusting the msq as we drive…

It’s that easy to retune partial throttle driving?

mainly i use tunerstudio’s ve analize live to get it close while driving, for my own. but its alot easier for me when im in the passenger seat , i can atleast adjust it a little faster. if i can get my little shit box to run on 1200s and e85 in the winter, warmer weather should be easy as hell…lol…

Ship it.

def ship it. after you pay for two tickets, food, lodging, gas, etc you’ll have paid for shipping plus save yourself 5-6 days of being on the road

wish I had noticed this post a week ago. A buddy of mine just delievered 4 MGs to CA last week. I dont think he’s coming back with a full hauler either… Dan

Did he start back already lol. I don’t mind the drive at all, and wanted to see shit anyways. Plus I needed the car back before the end of the month and didn’t want to take chances. Wish I would have known as well. I should have started this thread a week ago.

Yep. I called him at 5, he was 600 miles from Sacramento already. Turns out it wouldnt have mattered anyway. He acutally ran the cars out for a long track day (or week I suppose), so all the cars he took out came back. Apparently 4 dudes from here REALLY wanted to drive thier MGs at Infenion Raceway, hah. Expensive xport at $1/mi per car.

Good luck getting yours back. I think Id try to get someone to retune it there before you drive it 2500 miles.

Dan

Looks like it would be a fun track. I thought about taking the exstra 3 hours to Mazda laguna seca but they don’t have any open track days lol. I was also thinking about miller motorsports park just outside of salt lake city, but it is kinda flat for my taste. Besides, I should at least try and get the car home in one piece before I beat the piss out of it.

As far as tuning, I moved the date to the 18th that we’re flying out so now Josh can come again. I have complete trust in his tuning capabilities.
