Well, I guess I will have to tell you a little story. Back in the Fall of 2005, I was looking for a winter ride, because I had no intentions in driving my nice Chrysler Conquest TSi through the winter.
I wasn’t having much luck. Then suddenly ‘Brent_Strong’ told me all about a car, that his buddy Brian had left behind after he graduated from College at RIT, sitting outside of a Frat house. He told me it was a Neon ACR, and was very rare. He also told me it was a ugly green color. At this time, I had never owned a Neon before, and had zero knowledge of such model existing. After contacting Brian, he told me all about the car. It was 95 NYG ACR Coupe, 1 of 98 made. Originally a TX car, it had zero rust, just heavy clear coat peeleage. He then said it needed an intake manifold and should run. I was completely interested. After going back and forth a couple times, we agreed on a price, $800. I went and picked up the car. As soon as I pulled up on the house, where the car sat, there was no way one could miss the car. I loaded it up, and brought her home. After purchasing an intake manifold from the forum here, I put it all back together, and VROOOOOOMM!!! Yay! I fell in love with this car. I registered it the next week, and I vividly remember the first drive I had in the car. I was going thru the gears, and had the biggest grin on my face. The steering was crisp. I had found my car. After doing research on the forums, and reading many NYG ACR restoration threads, I realized I had to restore this one, as it was no different from the others I’ve read about.
This is what it looked like, shortly after I put it on the road, in 2005.
It lost it’s ugly vinyl graphics in 2006…
Got lowered in 2007…
Now, January 2008, I finally saved enough $ to get this car a deserving body makeover and ultimately, a fresh coat of NYG, by Choko
Getting to know the other fast cars in his shop, don’t be shy lol
Beginning of a long and hard sanding/dismantling phase.
Somemore sanding has been done, and many dings/dents showed up. NYG is a color that hides imperfections in the body panels very easily. Many of the dings, we didn’t see, until he began sanding, and they began popping up all over the place. Unbelieveable. I know they will be smoother then factory, when he’s done though.
Looks like somebody tap danced on the hood, lol! Didn’t see the waves until he hit it with the sander. He can straighten it, but it will take time.
Fixing my rocker panel that I damaged a few weeks ago, driving through a pile of hard packed snow, didn’t know it was THAT hard
Choko hard at work, with the slide hammer, pulling it out
Some custom artwork on the windshield
Hope ya’ll like it so far.
More pics/updates to come 8)
