I’ve always thought that the white wheels on the white neons looked like soccer balls.
damn, my R/T must be running pretty rich. i get like 28mpg with some highway, casual and spirited driving
Mine had the SOHC motor and an automatic and I think the best I got was 30 mpg. The 3 speed automatic sucks but since I traded a beat to shit '89 S10 and nothing else for a '96 Neon I couldnt complain too much.
I had some fun with that car. It was actually my first car because all I had before were trucks.
I wouldnt mind buying another one for a project car.
Wow. You sound like a very intellegent person.
Yeah, kinda. Mine were just white hubcaps though.
be glad you didnt have the dohc with the automatic. its the slowest one they made because the auto would shift right as the dohc got to its powerband
i’m still debateing tho whether to keep the cars and do the project or sell them and just get something nice
Ive heard that about the DOHC/auto.
My car wasnt too bad except it always seemed like it was looking for another gear. It was faster than the V6/5 speed truck I traded for it.
i’m still debateing tho whether to keep the cars and do the project or sell them and just get something nice
your choice is clear
way to contribute to a thread, the hell do you drive anyway?
An '89 Audi 80Q that’s pretty much beauty.
Anyways. Do you want me to elaborate as to WHY my friend’s Neon is a piece of shit? Here… I’ll tell you. It’s a '97. The paint is chipping horribly. There are mad rust spots everywhere. The gas gauge doesn’t work. The AC doesn’t work. There is rust all around the windows. It had a really bad oil leak. Um… let’s see… it makes weird ass noises when she turns. It’s not fast at all. It probably has the slowest pick-up ever. The steering is fucking horrible. It’s not comfortable. And it’s white.
I don’t like neons. I don’t understand why people mod neons. It’s a fucking neon. They’re not cool to begin with. The body is probably the ugliest body on a car, ever. A fucking Tempo is cooler looking than a Neon.
Yup. I’m done.
then you made another stupid mistake with the elantra…
Blazer > Neon.
Blazers are bad ass. Any Chevy truck/SUV is. Like a suburban… oh man. Drool.
these are people here who maintain their neons, and are working to make them quick (some of them Really quick, for that matter). they’re not my bag really either, for various reasons - but man - who needed to hear all that?!
Everyone did.
It’s like modding a topaz. It doesn’t make sense.
Actually my Elantra is the best car Ive owned so far.
adjust the throttle kickdown, line pressure, and install transfer gears from a 1.6 tourismo/charger auto and it aint too bad. 4k at 70 gets a little annoying after a while but it beats getting walked by mopeds from the light.
er i mean neons suck. They especially suck at racing and stuff. And they’re ugly.
My '96 Blazer was a total piece of shit. I had to replace all the balljoints, tie rods, pitman arm, idler arm, front brakes, sway bar links, a rusty fuel filter and a bunch of other parts and get an alignment before I even got it on the road. Along the way I had the torsion bar mounts replaced, the intake gaskets replaced, the brake pads again (kept squealing) and several other parts. Then the motor blew. 2000 miles later the transmission starting slipping and blowing fluid and the heater core blew out.
Also the abs light was on the whole time I had the truck and even after I replaced a bad sensor. The front suspension always creaked and popped and I could never figure out why. The alignment wasnt right after getting it done twice.
Also the ignition switch broke twice. 3 out of 4 speakers didnt work when I got it too.
I had the truck less than a year and lost my ass on it and traded it in on my Elantra with a bad tranny (didnt tell the dealer), antifreeze on the floor and tape over the abs light.
I never had that much trouble with the Neon. I had to replace a few parts along the way like the coil pack (the day I got it), both O2 sensors and a fuel filter (probably only needed one O2 sensor and not the other parts) and the starter fell out. When I sold it there was an oil leak and I think it was the rear main seal.
Sorry about your experience with that blazer. But every Blazer that my parents owned were fucking sweet. Man… I want a blazer.
maybe your friend doesnt know how to maintain a car, or the person she bought it from didnt maintain it… or maybe she just happend to get a bad one. prolly assembled in the same plant as the dsm’s
if you dont understand why people mod neons, they you prolly dont understand why people mod civics, crx’x, del slows…
they are all cheap economy cars… which are unexpected to be fast
like i said… i can get my neon in the high 12’s with $2000, and be decently reliable. and they handle pretty well. one reason why dodge decided to come out with the acr and it was originally only sold to members of the scca
and i dont think my r/t looks too bad
neons are affordable, have IRS, have a great aftermarket, are light, can be made to handle Extremely well, can come with stick and have pretty good gas mileage. not everyone likes how they look - i know i don’t, but whatever. it’s not the car for you then. i don’t really share the opinion that blazers are badass - i have no idea why any of them could be, aside from heavy mods and/or being a typhoon. but man, no need to tear down someone’s pick of car in a thread about building them up.
i mean that’s the nice version. but the quick and dirty is that if you think blazers are “bad ass”, then i’m willing to venture that your opinion isn’t worth a whole lot anyways
