OK saw this for the 3rd time tonight… still kindof confused but i read online went it meant ,and i must say wow this movie has a impact. has any one else seen it? and what did you think of it?
i love this film.
saw it for the the first time a few weeks ago. loved it!
GREAT MOVIE!!!
I think it is a toss up between Butterfly Effect and Donnie Darko
i think that donnie darko is a bit more subtle and ambiguous than the butterfly effect. Once you watch the butterfly effect by the end, you “get it”. Watch it a second time and the pieces fall right into place.
watch donnie darko once and you go, “wtf?”
watch it again, and it makes more sense, but you still go “wtf?”
maybe by the third or fourth time you don’t “wtf?” as hard…
I think there are alot more nuances and things to catch in DD, opposed to BE
plush BE has ashton kutcher. -7483291 points.
- it’s not hard to udnerstand
- it’s the same film every emo kid that knows nothing about film watches and think they have seen some profound piece of work and then raves about it forever
it’s true
not a bad movie, but not nearly near the hype it gets
I actaully enjoyed memento more than both DD and BE.
memento is also very good.
however, as far as i am concerned, compared to most “mainstream” movies, donnie darko far surpasses them in depth. While it isn’t the best film ever made, i appreciate the fact that the movie really isn’t too “idiot compatible”. People who say “that movie sucked, it didn’t make any sense” are what most other movies are catered to. No, it isn’t the best movie ever, but there are alot of subtleties and things to catch that help boost it’s cult status.
Every movie memtioned in this thread is greeeeeeeeat!
Can you post up the article you read online so that I can also go back and watch the movie, and actually understand it?
I agree, just saying that it seems to be the film that most people sort of get in to deeper pieces with and after watch it think they are enlightened or something. that is all.
Saw it, liked it.
I kind of understood it the first time through but I didn’t have a chance to rewatch it. Apparently the newest DVD that just came out, “Special Edition” or “Director’s Cut” or something has a version of the film that is much more straight forward. This was the way the writer had intended the movie to play out but the director wanted to leave it more ambiguous. I guess this was to address those people who just didn’t get it at all.
on a relatively related note…
“the others”
I saw this movie in theatres when it came out. (4 or 5 years ago?) While watching I remember thinking that it was pretty good, then it gets near the end, you think you know what is going on and bam, there is a great twist and i thought to myself, this is a great movie. I don’t even remember what the twist was, but it wasn’t flagrantly obvious; seemed you had to think about it a bit. However, the movie then went on to rehash and make it blatently obvious for everyone who didn’t “get it”. At this point, i hated the movie because it seemed so tacked on. It catered to the idiots. It seemed added such that all the fucking retards in the theatre didn’t walk out of there gabbing “that was a dumb movie, it didn’t even make any sense”.
I never watched the movie again, but had it not been for the little plot summary at the end, i probably would own it. But me owning a movie is far inferior to a billion dollars in dumbasses spending 8.50 to see it… So, it all boils down to buisness, but it is a sad state of affairs.
Yeah I remember the others, haven’t seen it since when it first came out, but I can only imagine what they did/added to make it easier for middle america to get.
and for hte record memento>DD>BE
god i hate donnie darko.
