This beta looks really good. It’s running very well for me. Looking this good, I’d expect this to RTM with Vista SP2 sometime late spring and hit retail channels by late summer in time for the back to school rush. Just my $0.02.
I wonder if vista SP2 will include any of these new features from 7? I just find it very odd on how fast they pushed vista aside. It had shitty marketing and a rough start, but it’s turned in to a pretty great modern OS imo

What file system does windows 7 use? NTFS or did they end up going with winFS?

I’m pretty sure it uses NTFS… when I installed it last night, it didn’t prompt me for any of that oddly enough. it just did it’s thing
I’d be willing to bet that it will run decent on your system though :tup: it’s a pretty lean OS. I designated 2gb of memory to the VM and windows was only using around 400mb or so
If I have time I’ll give it a shot. I don’t have the horsepower to use Vista so this will make for a nice comparison to Windows XP.
I seem to remember from the last time I dual booted 2 versions of windows that the 2nd version won’t be able to use letter C for its system directory, no? IIRC that was a pain in the ass. Can I unmount the others partitions and have them both think they’re C:?

the current running OS will always default the installed partition to letter C
so XP’s partition inside of XP will read C, while the windows 7 partition will read D (or whatever letter is free), but inside of windows 7 it will read just the opposite (C for the installed partition, and D for the XP partition)

also, you can hide the partitions from each OS afaik. So 7 wont show the XP partition and XP wont show the 7 partition. It would probably help keep things cleaner
