I just got this Megan Racing flex-downpipe and test Pipe from Autodream.
The test pipe and downpipe fit fine. The only problem is the downpipe hanger is not lining up properly. It out by about an 1" laterally at a bit of angle (see pic).
The whole exhaust system fits very nicely and there is no play whatsoever apart from what the flex sleeve allows. I was under the impression that the Megan Racing pipes have good fitment with stock parts. There is no tension being put on the downpipe… this is simply how it hangs off the turbo elbow. :?
What would be the best way to hang it? Just take a clothes hanger and twist it around with some pliers to give it some tension. I don’t think a bolt would work because it is off laterally at an angle. I don’t have any fabrication skills unfortunately.
Also, a little off topic but I could not remove the sensor in the cat. It was siezed in there. I ended up cutting it off right at the sensor. Do I need this? It’s not an o2 sensor is it? I am under the impression that the o2 sensor is in the turbo elbow…
i had the same problem wit mine…but mine was a removable braket…soo i just took it off …iono if its good or bad…i tihnk the exhaust moves more witout that hooked up.
make a small bracket and put a rubber exhaust hanger in there. If you do not hook this up it will wear all of the other hangers out sooner or even hit your downpipe on the side of the tranny/frame.
yeah make sure to hang it right… or you’ll end up like me with a blown exhaust mani to turbo gasket… cheap fix, but what a pain. same thing happened to two other people i know with SR’s who bought put on DP’s.
very true … I was going to mention that but it is just common sense … more vibration are more things will come loose …and if you bolt it solid without a rubber mount then it will just snap off over time … do it right once so you arent under there every week
Is it bad that there is no play in the exhaust system right now?
Just with the downpipe hanging like that (no tension from the other parts) the bracket is off. To get the rest of the exhaut system to bolt up to the downpipe I had to push it toward the frame rail a bit and that puts a bit of tension on the rear hanger.
I think I may bolt in the stock bracket… haven’t checked to see if that would fit over the new downpipe (probably not though).
same problem with mine, put a rubber spacer, i drove with my downpipe for about 2 weeks while my exhaust was shipped from over seas, you smell exhaust the whole time thats all really, o and the occasional backfire under your right leg/ass
Yeah, I’ve driven the car for a few days no with no issues whatover. Idle is solid at 900rpm and the car revs fine. I’m venting by BOV atmoshperically and it has absolutely no issues either.
Aaron (beatshack) told me this sensor is basically an o2 sensor but it is only used to take the temperature of the cat. If your cat is clogged or something it will be running hot and it will put a light up on the dash.
I put a test pipe in so I just cut the sensor it because it was totally seized in the cat. With the test pipe it’s not even touching the top and it’s not generating as much heat as a cat so I took off the heatshield as well (one less rattle to worry about).
Travis, let me know when you put that RPS clutch in (I could even help you out if you want). I’m thinking about the clutch and matching flywheel. Seems like the most solid sprung full disc kit out there.
