Downshifting sqeelch.

Hey guys i just got a question. Until yesterday i could downshift from 3rd to 2nd with a smooth transition. Then today, i do what i do all the time and when i downshift into 2nd it makes a squeel noise, like tires burning out for 2 seconds…I doubt its normal because it never happened before. My 240 is pretty low and i was driving down a back street with tires lines to follow, but the mid section was still snowy and it kinda scraped all along my bottom for a good 50 seconds. It started happening after i did that, i dunno if it has anything to do with it but w/e. So my question is what could the problem be? IS it normal? am i just crazy? Im still kinda new to 240’s, iv had mine fore about 5 months now? so please dont flame meeee. Thanks guys.

If your tires are doing a small burnout when your downshift that will be very normal in the rain/snow and will happen in the dry if you are shifting from a high enough speed.

match your revs when your down shifting.

probably a squeeking belt.
check your belts, make sure everything is tight, you said the car scraped snow, if it did the belt probably got whet and now slips…
thats about as much as i can see it

If it got wet, wont it dry eventually? does it also make a difference if your breaking and then downshift while the brake peddle is in vs. just downshifting with no break peddle in?

You have to match your revs

yes it makes a difference if your breaking or not breaking while your downshift

learn how to downshift, without taking your foot off the brake pedal.

doing braking & downshifting at the same time,

When you say match revs. you mean being at a certain rpm while in 3rd and dropping to 2nd? So whats a good “Match”? so is 3-4 RPM in 3rd gear safe to drop to 2nd?, the lower the better right?

by saying rev matching he means during the downshift so while you have the clutch in rev the engine to the speed it would be running at in that gear…example:in 3rd going 60…push in clutch rev to about 4000rpm (i think thats around where it would be going 60 in 2nd) and then shift into 2nd and release the clutch…that gives you a smooth downshift and sounds pretty awesome too if done right…saves a lot of wear and tear on the transmission and clutch too

i have never in my life, had my rear tires lock up with proper clutching going from 3rd to second…if im in third, downsifting to second, i can let the rpm go from lets say third gear at 3500 rpm, to second gear 4200 rpm and stilllllllllllllll not even hear a sound from my rear tires…even with a after market clutch.

if it is the case that you are downshifting from 3rd to 2nd and poping the clutch to fast…just ease it out…don’t just put it in second with the clutch engaged and pop the pedal out, let it out a bit slower, you will be able to feel when the clutch is fully engaged and then you can let the pedal go.

Hmmm, could be the problem. I dont exactly recall doing this, but its quite possible? ill pay attention to that when im driving, see if its what iv been doing. Maybe. Thanks for all replys guys.

Does the noise sound like an Expresso maker screech? And happens right as your letting the clutch out?

Does it ever make the noise when your accelerating hard going from first into second?

I had this problem after the first snow fall this year. I changed my tranny fluid and it helped but I’ve been told its possibly my Throwout bearing. Are yo on your original clutch?

It doesnt make the noise going from first to second, and the clutch was replaced about a year - a year 1/2 ago by the last owner.
