Drift Question

Hello, all im a newb to drifting and i think of getting either a 89-94 240sx

or a 95-98 240sx.well i just wan’t to know what are the steps to make a drift car.

turn steering wheel sideways, floor it? haha

yah not so much…

-lsd 1.5 or 2way (1.5 recomended for beginners, or even a factory viscous lsd, unitl u find yourself out preforming the factory diff, then switch to a 1.5 or 2way clutch type unit.)
-a good coilover steup
-front and rear swaybars
-drift pineapples (or alloy subframe colloars and bushings)
-pllow ball front tension rods
-rollcage
-upgraded motor and tranny monuts
-alloy steering shaft spacer
-stich weld…
etc, the list goes on
and become a preference to the driver, once u are at the amature level…

the main components are coilovers, sway bars, a factory lsd(beginnners)
or 1.5 or two way lsd, and drift pinneapples. pillow ball tension rods are a good upgrade to get more postive feed back from the front control arms, as we all know how the big rubber bushing ones flex and cause the wheel to rub onthe inner frame rail… talk to marvin at AUTODREAM in calagry, he will be able to hook u up with most of your needs…

thanks

Sorry for my sarcastic yet useless comment haha.

Takes down notes

What the fuck is a drift pineapple?

Buy a RWD, find wet/icy parking lot.

Practice! Once you’ve gotten the hang of it, upgrade when shit breaks, lol.

too bad wet/icy sliding around parking lots is just about completely different than sliding on dry sticky pavement.

Woohoo URAS!

Meh, I dunno. Same physics still apply. The speeds are just lower and it’s like having a high horsepower engine. And everything happens in slow motion so it’s perfect for learning. You outgrow it pretty fast though so you’ll have to step up to pavement sooner than later, which is a more visceral, but more fun, experience.

Really though, you can pretty much drift anything that’s RWD, regardless of modifications, the trick is developing the skill. Go out to some of your local drift events and start drifting. If you don’t have the first clue what you should be doing ask somebody there, they’ll give you some pointers because really, we’re all a bunch of showoffs just waiting for a chance to showcase our knowledge :E

B-Wurm

A) Get the Drift Bible

B)You have to learn a lot on your own to get a good feel for it so asking doesn’t do much.

C)Are you doing it b/c everyone else is?

Next questions.

  1. What do these drift pineapples do exactly?
  2. Where can I get some?
  3. How much?

I had a set of pineapples but i sold them cause i got solid subframe bushings. Basically, the pineapples tilt your subframe so that it has “anti squat” characteristics, making the car more slide happy, i most definately wouldnt consider them “drift essentials” though. You can get the whiteline version from autodream or pdm racing for about 100 bucks.

IMO, drift essentials for the beginner:

stiff coilovers
some sort of lsd
bucket seat

bucket seat is a must!!! or at least an s14 seat, any kind of stock s13 seat and you are flopping around everywhere haha

you can get away with springs and struts but it is deffinately alot easier to learn if you have coiovers

a rear sway bar makes the car much easier to kick out, esp for you n/a guys

find a nice big open parking lot and practice.
