As A driver of a Corolla AE86…It’s my official duty to hate 240s.
We have our reasons…number one, power is not the way to drift. It shouldn’t be about power, but about driver skill. Nissan guys always seem to think that more power/more parts (suspension etc) is always the answer to their driving problems. Also, we seem to be alot more DIY than a lot of Nissan owners (not all nissan owners!). I’ve personally never been to a tuner shop. Drifting shouldn’t be about money, a completly stock car is more than enough.
I am trying to start shit here.
Do you guys feel the same about our cars (and us)? why?
We just think you’re poor ass takumi wannabe’s
haha jk…I don’t even drift my car…I want an all round fast/good handling car…a corolla wouldn’t provide that for me, but I am in no way an ae86 hater. I like corolla’s and wouldn’t mind having one as a toy.
Why hate, appreciate :E
oh yeah, I DIY everything! :finga: …except the wiring harness
I personally don’t like slower cars, I just dislike driving them. Sounds you are debating the two cars for drifting. Whicjh depends on driver just as much. I personally prefer watching high speed drifts which are not achievable in your average AE86.
i wouldn’t know how to feel about S13 VS AE86, my buddy owns an AE, i have a Silvia. his is turbocharged, so is mine. i don’t think we’re going to hate each other if we battle it out and one of us ends up losing.
i had a chance to see an SR powered AE86 here in wpg. the guy brought it up from california, complete with v-mount IC, gutted interior and GT30 turbo. bigger is always better. you’ll learn that when u don’t always have to go sideways.
A big long smokey powerslide is sexy and a stock ae86 just isn’t able to do that, even with the skinny little stock wheel and tire combo.
Why is it your duty to hate 240’s? You are making alot of generalizations there that aren’t true. The majority of necc members are DIY’ers that don’t have huge budgets, therefore they do most of the work themselves.
How can you say that Nissan guys think power is the answer to their driving problems? Judging peoples driving skill by the car that they drive is just plain retarded.
The reason most s13 owners w/sr’s boost the power as one of their first mods is because its a turbo and its relatively cheap and easy to get modest power gains, which makes for an overall better driving experience. If you don’t agree, you obviously have never driven a fast car.
I have an ae86 friend that always ragged on me for having a 240sx “those are so played out, way too common, way overpriced, they’re the next civic, etc”. Anyways after a year or so I think he felt the need for speed, couldn’t buy a 240 because he always ragged on them, so he got an rx7 lol.
Lets just say that no one with cash would make the ae86 their first selection of vehicle for drifting.
Personally I don’t hate them, i think they are pretty cool. But like others have said above, the ae86 just seems to squeeze by with the drifting, I love watching high speed drifting by vehicles with more than 80whp.
They may be fine for drifting in stock form in slow tight corners, but its uses for anything else besides that are very limited. I just don’t seem myself wanting to be seen driving an ae86.
But hey, since we are voicing opinions, there is mine.
The Z guys surely have something negative to say about 240’s! lol.
Well frankly, as fast as my Z is, I still miss my Corolla. The car just worked so well and everything seemed to just be right in it. I can’t really explain it, but as slow as that car was, it’s still my favourite vehicle that I’ve owned and I will buy another one in the future.
Spend a little time driving an AE86 and you’ll start to realize just why people that own them love them so much.
Ooooh oooooh! I know! It’s cause of that Initial Dork cartoon right?[/quote]
Have you ever driven one? I have driven a lot of cars, but none of them felt like a stock AE86. No they aren’t fast, they aren’t even quick, but the feedback they give you when driving is unparalleled. Just a great driving experience.
I like drifting at more than 100 km/h and i also like to be able to actually finish a drift out of a high speed 2nd gear corner rather than bog down…Skyline>Corolla
Matt’s right, there is more to a car than power. Now, I’m no drifter (yet, anyway) but FEEDBACK from the car is the most important thing - you can have a 900 HP drift car, but if it isn’t talking to you and telling you what’s up, you could have more fun in a 100HP lightweight that you can feel exactly what’s going on underneath you.
I don’t get why people hate on cars simply because they’re popular - that’s retarded. It’s like, oh, drive a Lexus? All the ballers do that, so I’ll keep it real dawg and rep it in my Corolla. DUMBASS. :E
To an extent. Power is substantial in racing. Not entirely true for drifting, but always “nice” to have.
Like Canadianskyline said… I was watching some driftin events, and all of the corolas barely made it through the corners. Sure they handled nicely and did what the driver wanted, but petered out at the end of the drift.
I guess this has nothing to do with 240 vs. corolla, but power is something that you definitely need.
