Driveclean numbers

As I am getting closer and closer to putting my car on the road, we (the guy who built the car and myself, we work together) decided to stick it on the dyno at work and run a training test to see what kind of numbers it was putting out. Heres a list of what is in the car…

Redtop SR20
stock turbo
tubular exhaust manifold
FMIC
turbosmart bov
stock rad
stock maf
stock injectors
3" exhaust front to back (had test pipe, now has cat in)
Apexi power FC ecu
HKS electronic boost controller
stock coilpacks with NGK iridiums (unsure of the numbers at the moment, but they were cross referenced for the car)
Compression 160psi across the board
Car had been sitting for about 11 months. Pumped out all the old gas and filled with ultra 94, put maybe 10kms on before running on dyno

Numbers for the first run with test pipe in place were…

Running Idle

Measured Limit Measured Limit

HC-157ppm 66ppm HC- 345ppm 200ppm

CO-.39% .37% CO- .13% 1.0%

CO2- 13.7% CO2- 12.6%

NoX- 2633ppm 757ppm

Second run with the Cat in place…

Running Idle

Measured Limit Measured Limit

HC- 212ppm 66ppm HC- 195ppm 200ppm

CO- 1.65% .37% Co- .23% 1.0%

CO2- 13.6% C02- 13.9%

NoX- 1593ppm 757ppm

Sorry if the numbers look confusing, i tried to space them out but for some reason it wont show up like I typed it out, hopefully you can decipher it.

Passing it is not a problem since I can run it as a hotrod, but i dont really think it is running properly, and dont really know where to start figuring it out since I am completely new to japanese vehicles. I know the cat is not yet broken in yet. We also have no idea what kind of tune is on the ECU, and we are thinking that may have something to do with the crappy numbers. The car is also blowing alot of blue smoke after idling for a long time, leading me to think that the valve seals are leaking or a seal is gone in the turbo. It has sat for a long time with an occasional startup, so something may have dried up. The smoking cant be helping the e-test numbers, but I have cars that smoke alot more pass. I’m new to turbos/imports, so I’m expecting some bashing for asking stupid questions, but any help or input is greatly appreciated.

is the powerfc even harmonized with the current injectors and airflow meter (assuming youre running one) that are being used?

the tune is probably a big part of it… if you have no idea what it is, as you say, then it’ll be a giant question mark looming over your head

also… youll need more than 10km to burn all the crap off it

at least a full tank of 94… and dont be afraid to rip it… blast some of the carbon out

youll be hard pressed to pass under 240sx limits… its not impossible (people on here have done it) but it’s not common

I know I definatly need more than 10 km to burn off any crud left from sitting, but its not insured or plated yet, so I’ve not gotten any ‘real’ run time on it. The 10-15 km I’ve put on it have all been on the dyno, or around the parking lot at work in first gear…

No clue whether or not the ECU is set up for the components that are in the car. The injectors/air flow meter are stock from what I can tell and are what came installed on the engine when the front clip was brought from Japan, so I dont see why whoever owned the car in Japan would have changed any of the settings, but it still is a big ? until I can find out what kind of tune it is running on. How would I go about doing that, normal dyno tuning? I dont know what type of fuel SR20’s are supposed to run stock, but my friend accidentaly put low octane in it once and it ran like garbage. It will only run well on 91 or 94, so that made me think it might have a tune for premium fuel, but if thats what they are normally supposed to run on… I’m also not looking to get it to pass under normal 240 limits for the driveclean, but I think it can run alot cleaner than it’s running now.

if you need emissions done under the table feel free to pm me.

Thanks for the offer, but if need be I can do it myself

spd, its not impossible to pass a 240 its just stupid hard.

My car failed SO bad the first 2 tests, checked the ECU for codes and found my TPS sensor was faulty, and the actual ECU itself was faulty and was not sending out a 5v power to the sensor. Took me a good week to full figure out what was up and fix it, but once I did the car passed with flying colours.

OP: Check your tune. Clearly its not running factory nissan fuel or timing maps, so it could be anything. Good luck getting it to pass!

thanks for clarifying
