hey guys i threw in a set of subframe collars onto my rear subframe, once i test drove, my drivetrain from the rear started making really weird noises whenever i shift gears or work the clutch, it as if theres play in my driveshaft and it clunks whenever theres different tension on it, could this be a u joint ?, cause i changed the position of the subframe and the 15 year old u-joint finally went due to more tension hence subframe doesnt have play no more ?, or maybe the driveshaft xmember ? let me know guys, its really loud clunking
edit: someone said since my car is a 90’ and came with open diff, i swapped to vlsd, that i need an abs driveshaft to use with the vlsd cause vlsd (with the sensor wire sticking out) is 1/2inch longer than the open diff, hence causing my driveshaft to push on the bearing and the ujoiunt/xmember hence messing them up, do i really need another driveshaft ?
u shuold change to abs driveshaft, today i checked my hanger bearing and tranny were pushed about 2cm down towards the engine, its bad for both, the bearing at canadian tire costs about 125 bucks, u joints are 25 each, retarded prices, i put in the open diff and my driveshaft was so pushed in i had to tank it back out for it in order to reach the diff, swap now before its too late.
for my car that sounds normal. but then again i have a 2-way and subframe spacers,it always clunks and sound like general crap. its been like that for 1.5 years. my driveshaft has about an .5 inch or so hanging out of the tranny, which seemed odd to me but I had three different ones I tried, one from a coupe 240, one from a 180s and one from a fastback 240 all fit the same, no cars had the vlsd, hmm maybe my car is gonna break soon too, lucky for me I have an extra driveshaft. so in your guys opinions may I have the same issue alesserfate
ok guys i changed fluid in vlsd and everything got better, i measured my open diff and my vlsd difference its only about 1cm in length and the driveshaft seems to be free floating back and forward so i dont htink thats the issue, hes right, its that subframe no longer has as much play you hear everything through your drivetrain, oh and by the way, framehops’ back :S
