driving in the rain

Wondering if it’s normal to lose the tires at speed reaching higher than 120 on wet surfaces .The back goes 1 way similar to a drift and I actually have to counter steer to prevent the car from making a 360. The is a really scary felling. Solution for the problem so far is to reduce speed .
I still have my winters on , I recently upgraded from the open diff to an LSd diff but problem still persist . I guess it could only be the rear suspension or the tire speed rating .
Just wondering if anyone ever experience that on the wet surfaces .

  1. probably shitty tires

  2. is it a 2-way diff? or 1/1.5?

  3. I doubt it’s the suspension.

blown rear shocks?

old rear bushings?

I always though snow tire would do great in the rain  , till I started driving a rwd that is ! Actually I think 1 of my rear shocks is blow . I am on the market to purchase a rear set .
BTW : the lsd is the s13 91 + diff .

i got a pair of rear shocks from an 88 silvia

they got 111,000 on them

$100

Tooooo much POWA

with a stock SOHC ? Imagine when I hook up the T3

Hydroplaning? Too much water in one spot and your car looses traction. Ive had this happen countless times. Does this occur under heavy rain fall only?

I think that is it . the term is hydroplaning , too much water on a specific spot causing the tire skip over surface . I have better tire than my GF fwd car but she never had that happen before ( you should have seen the look on her face when the car moved ) .
I made some research and hydroplaning is all about the tire condition and speed rating . A larger tire is less likely to hydro plane so it’s time to put the 17’s on , I guess 8)

i drove on dead bald 195s in the rain with my sr on higways around 150 ish. no problems car never hydroplaned ever. however just turning a corner on the street in 1st = sideways

When they say larger tire, they mean larger tire to road contact area.

like 205s, 215s, 225s, etc.

I don’t know how you drive, but it sounds to me like something isn’t right, probably differential related.

OR

Tooooooooo much POWA!!

Come on , dont tell me I am the only person that experience that while driving under heavy rain fall ! I had an open diff , had the problem , upgraded to an lsd diff , same problem .
I really think my tires , the open diff really killed my winter tires cause of the 1 wheel spin ; the tread were are not so deep anymore .
SOHC will never have TOO much POwaaaaaa

check to make sure your tires are the same size on both sides of the rear… I actually bought a set of rims with tires already installed that had 1 tire that was too large.

check the ride height and camber and toe angle on both rears…

I dunno, I have a VLSD and have never had a problem…

My car rides like a Cadillac on the highway…smooth & quiet. I could pull some pretty crazy stuff in the rain on the highway before anything got unpredictable. I have 60-70% tread Blizzaks.

Bald tread on rainy surfaces however will cause an easy loss of traction, and will be that much harder to regain.

Another thing is, drive according to the conditions, don’t push the limit in traffic or crappy weather. I wouldn’t recommend much over 120km/h, if that, in heavy rainfall just to be safe. As well, our cars are relatively light, so a heavy cross-wind could give that effect easily, so keep that in mind too.
